A 1/5 turn throttle? Why? Because it makes the bike feel less
    controllable, and therefore more powerful?

I so wish I'd thought of selling suckers a small, crescent shaped
piece of nylon. You know, you could cut one out yourself, with
    a bit of calculification!
A 3/5 throttle? Or would that make it a 1/125 throttle?

  4. It increases the effective diameter of your throttle tube, giving it a
quicker action. It's a BRILLIANT idea.

I have a quick action throttle on the ZX10. It doesn't make it feel an less
controlably, or any more powerful, but it lets me use all of the throttle. I
have small wrists. If quick action throttles made a bike that much less
controllable, racers wouldn't use them. Have you ever used one?
I'm no where near that talented. I could cut one myself, but it wouldn't be

Nope. Ridden bikes with 1/4 turn throttles though.
But then ... *drum roll* I'm not a racer.
Measure the diameter of the groove in the throttle. That's
your internal diameter. Assuming it's a 1/4 turn now, take
5/4 of that, and that's your groove diameter. Build the
throttle wire groove up to that diameter with metal epoxy
    or plastic weld or something.

Lemme put it this way ... it's a nifty idea, and if the first
site I stumbled onto didn't want UKP 26 and the second USD 25
for them, I'd think it was a much cooler idea. For that price,
you can afford to pick up a spare throttle tube from a wrecker
    and give it a go.

Damn. I so should have charged you EUR 25 for that ...

Really? That's sweet of you. I can think of several people I'd
rather be stranded with that you ... if nothing else, if things
got really desperate, they'd be good eating. As for you lot
    of sarcastic bastards ...

Also, bear in mind that the bike didn't survive the return journey ...
turns out to have been a very serious problem indeed ... on the other
hand, it did last long enough to get me home.

All of this assumes that there is room inside the throttle assembly for
a throttle "pulley" significantly bigger than what is already there. I
would have thought that any reasonable designer would build the casing
around the throttle pulley just big enough to encase the existing
assembly (unless they had it in mind to market their own quick-action
    throttle.)
(what would I know, mine is chain-driven)

How would I make a 1/5 turn throttle out of a Sharkey? Wouldn't some
kind of plastic be more suitable?
Oh Marty, now I'm hurt. Had you forgotten about this trip already?

http://w6rec.com/duane/bmw/control/control4.jpg has a pic of some of the
    bits.

The twistgrip drives a bevel gear that pulls a small chain that pulls
the cable. Not having the cable pulled around a cylinder means less
bending of the cable, less cable damage.

Plus the chain can be driven by an eccentric cam (not visible in the
photo) that gives a variable ratio throttle. At low openings, it is
less sensitive, like a slow-action throttle, and at higher openings, it
is more like a quick-action throttle.
