  2. Like I say: yes, indeed.

Now consider the sheer _malice_ in some comments directed my way, and ask
yourself if they were merited. No, don't bother: I can predict your
    response.

However, it's quite remarkable, the reactions to that 'saga'. I am as sure
as I've ever been about _anything_, that if things had been reversed, the
outcome would have been different. The comments would have been along the
    lines of, 'Des, you're a ****: it's Cab's business and no one else's,
whether he has an R1 or not'.

That being said, however, the full story can be told. As I've mentioned
before, the inclusion of the 'R1' sig, was accidental, as it was intended
for another newsgroup. Ginge noticed it, and then when Cab got back, he
said that there had been some 'amount of bullshit' or whatever. Bear
appeared to catch that, and posted something questioning the existence of
the bike. I fired off an e-mail to Cab, along the lines of 'cheers, mate',
and he replied with an apology, saying something like, 'I should have kept
my big mouth shut'. Quite. What a pity that he didn't, and that at a
subsequent TOG meet somewhere in France, he decided to shout his mouth off
about _other_ aspects mf my private life (I know this, as things were
posted here later on, that only Cab knew). I've been accused of asking Cab
to 'lie for me'. I didn't. In response to his, 'what am I supposed to
tell them when they ask me ??', I answered, 'tell them nothing'. That
wasn't asking him to 'lie'; it was asking him to mind his own business. Of
course, an even better response would have been for him to reply to Champ's
(who I believe was the first to send an e-mail to Cab .. as if it were any
of his fucking business, but let's not dwell on that) e-mail asking whether
I had a bike, with a, 'what's it to you ??'. If Usenet hadn't been so
'porous', then I'd have had no problem about, to use the current
vernacular, 'fessing up', but I know for a fact that at one of the people
who have in the past made death threats against me, reads this group.

Any amount of rationalising can be done (and will be), you shouldn't have
lied, it wasn't right, blah blah. The bald truth of the matter is that
whether I had a bike or not was my business (and don't give us any shit
about my posting it here making it others' business: do those who post
about vasectomies need to provide scans and/or digital photos of their
bruised balls ?), and no amount of whingeing on the part of the toadying
cunts on here is going to change that. Cab was out of line, and instead of
the _vox populi_ roundly condemning him for betraying someone who at that
time had taken him to be a 'friend', he was fêtedas some sort of
'saviour', protecting UKRM from big, bad Des and his imaginary R1. Since
then, any amount of snide comments have been made, 'would you trust him?',
'can he be believed ?' &c. Gimme a break. I told an untruth about
something that, all things considered, was my business and no one else's.
Cab revealed to all and sundry, things had been told to him in confidence.
Which is the greater 'crime' ?

The result is that _I'm_ flamed, and he's patted on the back and adored to
such an extent that even now, he enjoys almost goil-like immunity from
criticism, and any attack brings vicious condemnation on he or she who had
aimed the criticism. As our American friends would say: go figure.

(PS lest I be accused of 'going quiet', and not answering any post that you
might make in response to this, know that I'm away from the PC all day, and
that some friends are coming around this evening, so I shan't be able to
post until tomorrow at the earliest, or possibly Monday morning)

Nah. A kill-file is just making good use of technology. Or do you still
    use a mangle?

I really do have no objection to that. I suppose it is the childish and
frequent use of "plonk" which gets on my tits.

  7. It comes from an exagerrated opinion of one's importance, and of one's
intelligence. Which is why Ace and Blaney are two of the worst
'offenders'. Much like the ten-year-old who is convinced that when he
tells a friend, 'I'm not speaking to you anymore!', the latter will be
so crushed that he will become a tearful, gibbering wreck. The above-
mentioned gentlemen don't seem to realise that no one gives a flying ****
whether they read posts made here, for the simple reason that they're not,
contrary to their wildest, borderline pro-pubescent fantasies, greater than
    the sum of UKRM.

  11. Nonsense. If it pissed them off they'd just change their posting
    identity!

Something they wouldn't be able to do if the plonkers(tm) could keep
    quiet about it.

Mentioning the plonk is futile and pandering to the plonkee. Performing
the plonk may have a limited merit. Don't plonk but ignore seems to
    have no drawbacks.

  12. Utter rubbish, in fact. I've commented on this before: I don't
deliberately post inflammatory stuff, in order to elicit responsee (Christ,
this iMac keyboard is shitez). It appears that my opinions offend more
than one, but my 'fault', i.e. where I anger the Clique and incur their
wrath, is that i) I refuse to shut up when they tell me, and ii) I don't
take their mindless (and unjustified) abuse without talking back.

  13. Do you, perhaps, have in mind such mindless (and unjustified) abuse as -
    well - this, for instance:

Toby Augh-Nottoby bored us all completely to death with wittery prose

  15. No, because the above wasn't abusive.

  16. << Nobody understands me.>>

Well, it certainly *reads* like a gratuitous and unprovoked swipe at Cab's
SO. Perhaps it is unfair to make the same demands of a Frenchman's use of
English that we would of a native English-speaker. Nevertheless, I would
counsel you to be aware of the fragile sensibilities, and the zero-tolerance
of syntactical or grammatical solecisms, which prevail here at ukrm ;-)))

I suspect that Des, perhaps more than others, is already aware of them

  18. You know it. I know it. We all know it; all except the man himself, of
course. No harm in gently pointing out the logical inconsistencies,
freelance insults and slapdash hypocrisies whenever they occur, though.
