    Are definitely a breed apart.

My pal (he of the whole slew of bikes including BMW 1250GS, Honda CB1300,
Honda CB1000, Honda CBR 600rr, Harley Fat-Boy, Honda Goldwing, Ducati Paul
Smart etc) turned up at my place yesterday wearing an open faced helmet with
Union jack graphics and a denim jacket with "Hard Rock Cafe" embroidered on
the back, riding his new bike.

I say bike, but I use the term very advisedly, it being a fucking Vespa.
300cc 4 stroke twist-and-go. A whole 22bhp of power to astonish the owner.

He now wants it vinyl wrapping/painting in some "Planet Hollywood/Hard Rock
    Cafe" stylee.

I have to say, it's not for me.

I reckon the purchase of a scooter is answer enough. He's a hairdresser :)

You're not wrong, but christ they do vary. My hairdresser mate is a
shaved head 6ft 6in 300 pounder, who makes people cry just by looking at
    them.
He is soft as custard though.
Coincidentally, one of his claims to fame also involves a scooter
(Lambretta), which was crushed during an exploratory arse/seat
    interface.

  5. Modern scooters are dreadful (with possible exception of the Honda
    Zoomer).

I'd love a vintage Lambretta. But then I do live in Brighton.

Maybe (but more likely not) he has developed a dodgy hip and joined
the oldpharts who have difficulty getting a leg over.

It's now a racing certainty that he's as fit as a fiddle and probably
    an Olympic athlete as well.

Not quite, he's only in his late 40's but he manages to stand up all day
fiddling with hair. I don't see him doing a marathon though.

Here I am, letting you know. I'm not in the least bit interested in painting
the thing and it's either that or wrapping.

  17. I have not so much as sat on a modern scooter but I did own and sometimes
operate an LD125 and also enjoyed the odd CIHAGM moment back in the day
and if I were out shopping specifically for a scoot today it would have to
be a series IV Li with zero miles on the clock if I was doing nothing but
posing at rallies or a modern plastic one with brakes if I actually
intended to use it for shopping and stuff.

    Heh.
I took the 400 Four out for a quick blast around the Mendips yesterday,
getting on was OK but getting back off without dropping it an hour
    later was a tad interesting.

It is looking less and less likely that I will ever ride the ex-daughter
CBR600F so it is for sale. The chances of the local health authority
having a budget for replacement hips is rapidly vanishing into the
    distant future.
