    I dunno. The world's first official motorcycle T-shirt, belt-buckle,
    engraved side-covers, etc, etc, etc

Then there was the HD Pea-shooter, a World Championship winning
machine. I believe some current models have EFI, something the
Japanese are thinking about doing soon. They held a couple of World
titles with their machines from their Aermacchi factory. And I believe
they regularly win in the Sportster races in our very own Oz.

On the other hand the Kiwis have made......... umm........
World-beating yachts and... umm.... a yacht to beat it flying a flag
of another country which isn't near a sea.

For a company that doesn't lead, they seem to have a surfeit of other
    companies willing to follow!!!

It's because the dimensions are based on the 1200 four. Bore spacing, cam
    locations, that sort of stuff...

    No car bits.

Starting it in the driveway and blipping the throttle is not riding it.
No wonder you felt the engine heat
how about making those round rubber things underneath actually move?

  6. Which was why I put the emoticon... Indian was first in the US... before HD
    for those that don't know.

But as you point out (in your trade mark abbreviated way) neither copied the
    other.

The same situation exists with the jap cruiser manufacturers... they are
_not_ copying Harley, they are just making similar bikes *grin*

They don't need to copy the "Japs", as they're all busy copying HD....

In your original post you attributed two quotes to the ex CEO. Neither of
which said anything of the sort. Stop making stuff up.

...and everyone gets really sick of dickheads who carry on about Ford or Holden
too. I'm surprised you admit you're in the same category as the other losers,
but that means that there is still hope for you. For starters, stop searching
the online newspapers for instances of the word "Honda".

    Happy to help.

  12. Well, I can. The link is advertising.
Reality TV (BTW, a soon to be classic oxymoron) is a vehicle for
    advertising.
Harleys are advertising embodied as a vehicle.
    :) for aus cars.

  13. (but fake) mufflers and similar
I notice you snipped the comments about Indian and Harley Clem! Makes the
rest a tad out of context don't you think *grin*

The point was, that Harley wasn't copying Indian, but never the less many
    parts were visually quite similar.

There are only so many ways to make a cruiser V-Twin *shrug*.

Now if you said Japan were copying 'the cosmetics' or 'the image' of Harley
then I probably wouldn't argue with you, but that isn't the same thing as
    copying 'the bikes'.

They were both copying JAP. JAP V-Twins powered a lot of the early British
bikes. Bicycle manufacturers who wanted to get into motorcycles just bought
a JAP engine and stuck it in their own frame.

That's JAP, a British engine manufacturer, nothing to do with Japan.

  15. Yeah - and if you are really really cunning, you can use a fork and plade
con-rod system to make absolutely sure the rear cylinder can be perfectly
shadowed by the front one so different mixtures have to be used to
    compensate for the cooling variations.
Fortunate indeed the bastards I may be referring to run rough as guts
    already.

not to mention the engineering no-no of having the cooling air pass
over the inlet port before reaching the desperate for cooling exhaust
    port.

Honda gets around the whole knife-and-fork thing by using overhead
cams: by putting the cam chain tunnels on opposite sides, the
cylinders still look aligned, and 'character'-reducing heat loss
from the rear cylinder is minimized :)
