I finally got a roundtuit and investigated the intense smell of petrol
generated by the goldwing after riding it for a while, which has been going
on for 6 months or so now...after removing many plastic panels...found
carbs...removed carbs, and found that the 15 yr old o ring seals of the
float chambers were weeping considerably...evidenced by the red deposit all
    over carbs
so out with the aircraft gasket goo and a good coating over the dead o rings
(and a little tube on the outside, sealed with o rings that delivers the
accelerator pump output to the squirters), reassemble...replace much plastic
and ride...no fuel smell, me happy
cost of repair $0...took me 8 hours
