H4 Bulb help?

  1. Hi all, require advice on the installation of an H4 bulb. Had to replace the
aftermarket light fitting on my Bandit and bought a replacement headlight
with H4 bulb. Thing is, I don't know which way I should connect the wiring.
Obviously the bulb has 3 contacts, and I have 3 connectors, ground, dipped
and main beam. I tried to figure out the contacts using an ohmmeter but
failed(inept) so went for the 'try all the different combinations'
technique. Basically I have 2 configs that work but have different results.
First one, my dipped beam seems quite dim and the main beam appears to work
ok, second one, main beam is a lot brighter but there doesn't appear to be
much diff between that and the main beam, although there definitely is a
    difference.
Just to clarify, I know the wiring part, it's just the tags on the bulb that
have me foxed, anyone got any advice, anyone, please!?!

  2. Some H4 systems need a relay, don't they?
