Having survived the traffic and the heat to get to the tyre shop, I discover
that they booked me in on the wrong day and are too busy to do my tyres,
    which aren't in stock anyway.

If I go back I think they are expecting to charge me £230 for BT010Js rather
than £200 for BT010s. Can anyone confirm/deny that the only difference
betweens these tyres is the name ????

    ta,
    jim

PS. Anyone tried 010 front 020 rear to save a few pennies?

    On a GSX-R1000??

Didn't think I'd say this, but you want a nice VFR you do.

Ah - but could you really tell the difference?

I've put 208s on the g6 but only cos' they've got a sexy tread
    pattern.

Incidentally has anyone had dealings with Superbike tyres.com?

    their offering of

    180/55 Z17 rear - 120/70 Z17 front
    BRIDGESTONE 010 £178.00

    seems reasonable.

I actually don't think the Thou suits an 010 on the front. Standard
spec is an 011 I think which has a more pointed profile.

I find the front on the Thou does feel quite a good in turns on an 010
as my 750 did. Feels like it's going to run wide. I think the
pointed profile of the 011 would be better as you'd have a bigger
flatter area in contact when cornering than the more rounded 010.

Yup, used the branch out in Wycombe a couple of times... phone first,
and feel free to haggle though :)

The suffix is added for model(or type)-specific versions of the tyre.
I once had the wrong one fitted on my Sprint ST (the J suffix, when it
should have been the plain one) and the handling was completely
screwed by it. So no, your assumption is not correct.

    BUT

You don't want to be putting an 010 on a gixxer, FFS! It's not the
recommended tyre, unless it's changed since the early models. In any
event, if you're sticking with Bridgestone's you want the 011/012
that's the OEM fitting, although ISTR that they're being replaced with
    013/014 or summat.
Worked fine on the Triumph, but would probably lead to horrors on the
gixxer, unless you've got a French, restricted, version. 164bhp
through an 020 would just lead to wheelspin, I suspect.

just checked the user manual for my 2001 bike.
    front - Bridgestone BT011F E
    rear - Bridgestone BT010R E

Are those japanese designations? or will I find them in the UK.

It was the tyre dealer who said BT010J was the correct tyre for me.

Maybe I'll just put diablo's on as my mate seems happy with his.
