Are spares etc. for the above readily available? I'm thinking of changing
my bike (yes, I know, so soon!) to one of those (or perhaps a 600,
depending on what I'll be able to afford) and was just wondering if it's
likely to be a case of buy it and not get any bits for it anymore.
The one I'm looking at is an '89 model - though I can possibly get a newer
    one.

Not really the most popular model. so you would probably be better off
buying something like the 600F or similar. Loads of bits around for those.

    Cheers!

I had a GSX-R 250, and I had no problem finding parts. The 400 is more
popular than the 250, so I don't think you'd have too much problem.
    http://www.dkmotorcycles.co.uk/ were very useful.

However, IIRC, you had a CBR600, but didn't like it. Why do you think a
GSX-R 400, or 600 will be better for you?

  4. They were actually an official UK model for a short while, so yeah,
parts back-up shouldn't be too bad.

    OK.

Replace all I've typed with "WibbleFlipDibbleDoo".

    I still say buy a 600 though.

Spares are available via the better greybike specialists like Elliots.

However, don't fucking bother with the Gixxer400.

The engine on the 600 of the same era is peaky and has a very narrow (for
    a four stroke) powerband.

The 400 lump has a powerband the width of a gnats cock and is to be found
    at about 165000rpm.

The chassis, brakes and everything else are entirely adequate, however
you'll spend so much time dancing about the gearbox, it'll piss you off in
    no time.

Seriously, there are /waaaay/ better 400s out there almost all of them
with a Honda badge (ZXR400s being the exception).

    [of the Gixxer4]
I agree that finding bits for the CBR4 ain't a problem, however, the
gixxer is nowhere near as popular, even in Japan. Finding spares for it
is not impossible and, as I mentioned up there ^^^, the better greybike
specialists will be able to help, but the Honda's are far easier and more
    plentiful.

    :p

Just so long as I don't get a severe case of baboon-bum after 80 miles. :)
