Someone's claiming to have done 270km/h along the freeway
westbound from penrith this morning on a new 'busa. A pretty
crowded bit of road at the best of times. Was I right to
call *cough*bullshit*cough*? How quick can a stock 'busa
    *really* go on the street?

GB, and for that matter, who *really* cares!

You're wrong, easily achievable. Your Thunderarse could probably do it too.
Dunno, you're asking, so I guess you do ?

The guinness book of world records had the busa as the fasest production
    bike @ 317kmh I believe

cant find it on their site, anyone got a copy of the book to double check.

reading in an old copy of AMCN or the like in the Drs the other day, 359kmh
on a turbo busa on some South Aust salt lake last year over the flying 5 or
    so miles

You're never right. :p An indicated 270 is easily achievable on just
about any 600cc+ jap bike manufactured since 1990. About 4 years ago
Andrew Pitt was clocked at 291.8kph riding a ZX12R down a German
autobahn through a police radar trap... with a bloke on rollerblades
hanging on to the back of the bike for dear life.

Dunno. Did you want to piss them off?

Certainly with the traditional speedo error, they probably
were doing considerably less than the 270 that the speedo
    might have been showing.
More than twice as fast as I would want to travel on the public road.

Actually, it was the public road bit that was my point. Sure,
even *my* bike will go that quick (with Craig on it maybe, not
with me!), but on a crowded public road?

Depends what you mean by 'crowed public road'. We're not talking Pitt st at
5:30pm on a Friday night are we?
My 10 year old CBR600 will do 180 easily in the middle of surburbia, and
I've been left standing still by some of these new 1 litre machines. I can't
imagine that 270 on a Hayabusa would be too much effort.

shit i can ger my 1989 zxr750 up to 240km so a 1300 bussa should be able to
do at least 290 320 km

I've had 120 km/h on the FZ1, then I had to change into second....

180 in third and pulling stroong but there was a corner coming. Course here
in the NT we can actually do stuff like this legally... and it aint no Pitt
    st either...

You did say westbound didn't you? Wouldn't the eastbound lanes there be
the crowded ones during the morning peak hour?

On a sat-dee? They'd all be climbing over each other to get outta
    town on a sat-dee methought.

GB, phuc nose, I was flat out finding room to do 160 out there
inbound -or- outbound the other mid-night.

Unless it was peak hr, you can get from 160 to 270 (by the clocks) in a
fairly short distance if you give it a fistful. Hell the measy 110 or so
HP the Raptor is will get you from a 100 to 200 in not very many seconds.
