GS850 project - what's it worth

    Hello,
At the risk of being told it isn't a classic can anyone give me an
indication of what my '79 GS850G might be worth, please? It was in
fairly regular use until about 4 years ago when I took it off the road
as I'd bought an FJ1200 and wanted to get the carbs cleaned (now done
by JRS in South Wales) and strip and rebuild the calipers (annual
task). Well it has sat in the garage since then and I think it has to
go. It is standard except for a Motad 4-1 and Boyer ignition. I've
owned it since 1988. It has got about 50k miles on the clock and has
served me well. It will need work on the brakes, carbs refitted and
probably some cosmetics but I think it is too good to break and I'm
not sure what it's worth hence the request for advice. Does £350-£500
    sound about right?
    TIA

If the engine is sound, £300-350 would be a good price range *if* heard
running. I'd get the carbs back on at least so the buyer can hear it running
otherwise you won't get more than £75-£100 max. Get an MOT on it and you
could get up to £750 as a winter hack as they are still quite popular.
As a non-runner, you may want to sell it as a 'trike project donor' maybe?
Get onto the NABD website and see if any interest there.

  3. What he said, except that get it nice and clean and the price goes well
    into four figures.

Thanks to you & JB for the advice. I'm hoping to pick up a roadworthy
bargain at Netley tomorrow and so a 'project' *has* to go. I thought the GS
was the best to get rid of but maybe I should off off my fat a**e (read PC!)
and put it back together myself!
Once again, thanks for the help

PS Hope The Doctor is OK now (I've not kept up for the last few weeks I'm
    afraid)
PPS Nothing worthwhile @ Netley - now I'd better get on with putting my GS &
    FJ back together!

If he was driving without due car, surely the collision wouldn't have
    been as bad?

Thus spake Mike Fleming unto the assembled multitudes:
Presumably it was an undue car and therefore not expected, which is why the
collision came as something of a surprise...? :)
