Well my friend Irene collected her 1st bike on Saturday. 2002 GS500 with
    14k for a grand seen here http://www.photobox.co.uk/album/2161386
Pretty clean other than some marks on the exhaust and a slight ding on
the tank hidden under the pad.

I've done around 20 miles on it and it seems like the perfect novice
bike for someone who has never ridden away from the instructor before.

Enough power but very smooth progressive delivery.
    No vibes.
    Tractable.
    Good but not fierce brakes.
Decent handling and very light steering.
    Easy riding position.
    Low and lightweight.
    Comfy seat.

What do people think of them generally, have they proved reliable in
harder use, any known weaknesses in this later model.

Anyone with spares, might be interested and she *really* needs to find a
    restrictor kit asap??

I really did like the one I had, it was great fun.

It will not make that much difference to the performance just the top end.

    I once made 100kms out of 3litres (that's near 100mpg) on a GPZ500. I wonder
how I should consider the twat I was following (steady at 90km/h).

There are a few of us on here who are perhaps not as timid as you might
    imagine.

I think they are good fun bikes.

It was a good laugh as you would imagine with Susie.

She's actually quite sensible but a bit mad.

I would have thought a GS500 barely made 33bhp anyway.

  11. 51bhp - (or so Suzuki say)

I can believe it when you wind the engine up over 7k revs, especially with
the bike being so lightweight (unlike the rider)!

It barely does a ton even with my head tucked behind the little fly screen.
It wont pull the skin off a rice pudding but it's great fun.

Agree wholeheartedly! So who needs to do the ton commuting through the
    centre of Leicester every day?

What I really like is the rock steady steering, even on damaged and uneven
road surfaces. Gives you great confidence to squeeze through even the
tightest of spaces in heavy traffic!
