I'm considering replacing the fazer with something less (necessarily) revvy - something with some real grunt. Not a sportsbike though. Choices that spring to mind are: Suzuki B12 and GSX1400 or the Yamaha XJR1300 Any others in this same mould? Have any of you had the opportunity to make any comparisons between any of these - interested to hear those. cheers -- jeremy ['75 RD250A ] | ['02 Fazer 600 in blue] ____________________________________________ jeremy dot ovenden at hazelweb dot co dot uk
paging YTC and Dr.Giles. When B12s and XJRs try to go round corners at the same speed, the XJR ends up in a ditch.
Well I like my B12, Cab likes his GSX1400 and YTC#1 likes his XJR. So, whatever. Erm, if you're a masochist, consider a Buell or mebby a Monster with a proper engine in it.
There was an article in Bike magazine an issue or 2 ago about the Yam - the guy just hated its handling once over about 90 or so. -- jeremy ['75 RD250A ] | ['02 Fazer 600 in blue] ____________________________________________ jeremy dot ovenden at hazelweb dot co dot uk
are you talking about a new bike? Suzuki have offers on on a few Gixers and the SV1000 and the B12 this bank holiday weekend. http://www.suzuki-gb.co.uk/centre_news.asp?sty_id=268
Kawasaki ZRX 1200R Honda CBR 1300 Or.. maybe an aprillia tuono or a Z1000 for something a bit more modern.
if it's the article I'm thinking off, yes, he hated pretty much everything about the XJR, not just it's high(!) speed handling characteristics. Face it - no bike these days should have twin shocks.
No I can't see it being a new one and probably not until later in the year - assuming I get around to testing a couple. thanks -- jeremy ['75 RD250A ] | ['02 Fazer 600 in blue] ____________________________________________ jeremy dot ovenden at hazelweb dot co dot uk
There was a brief moment for a day or in the time he had it when he thought it was all OK and could see why people were so fond of it - but yeah the rest of the time he was very negative about it. -- jeremy ['75 RD250A ] | ['02 Fazer 600 in blue] ____________________________________________ jeremy dot ovenden at hazelweb dot co dot uk
I'm biased, but have ridden all three. The B12 is lighter than the other two and slightly better handling. All have great engines. The B12 is cheap as chips, so that did it for me Mike. -- '02 GSF1200 in silver www.rivingtonbarn.com (Rivvy website) http://www.rivingtonbarn.com/phpbb/portal.php (Forum) Email address spamtrapped. The *dry* weight of the gsx1400 is something like 228kg! -- jeremy ['75 RD250A ] | ['02 Fazer 600 in blue] ____________________________________________ jeremy dot ovenden at hazelweb dot co dot uk
Yeah but they're all pretty lardy ;-) I would recommend going to your nearest Solus Suzuki dealer [1] and insist on a test ride. As I said I found the B12 to be the best handler, the XJR felt wierd at most speeds. Looks the nicest though IMO. Mike. [1] Mine is Slingers, Preston. Great customer service. -- '02 GSF1200 in silver www.rivingtonbarn.com (Rivvy website) http://www.rivingtonbarn.com/phpbb/portal.php (Forum) Email address spamtrapped. Remove "your clothes" to reply.
CB1300 isn't it. And depending on which test you read then either the CB1300 or the Kwak comes out on top. The apparent consensus seems to be that the Suzuki is dog slow, the Bandit is past it (a bit) and the Yamaha is made of rubber, bends in the middle and is generally a bit useless. Of course bike tests just become more scathing year after year regardless of whether any changes have been to any of the bikes being tested. These are veering off into a different genre of bike though aren't they? More litre bike streetfighter stylee.
Coo-ee! *wave* The Bindit is a cheap, comfy muscle bike with lots of potential. The GSX is a fat lardy heap of Suzuki crap (no bias there at all...ahem). The ZRX is a tad more focussed and sporty but has lots more BHP than the others. I like the XJR best of all (which is why I bought one), but I've never ridden a sportier bike at speed, so I have no idea how it feels to have all the handling done for you.... Go to a dealer and have a shop about. despite all the facts and figures, you'll most likely go for what you like the looks of
