Well, almost the other side of the world - I know Lake Tahoe isn't
    quite there (for the pendants).

We would have awesome biking roads around here if (a) I had a bike and
    (b) it wasn't effing snowing again.

Guess I'll have to settle for driving over a mountain pass to work and
back with a nice V8 burble in my ear on a daily basis until the bikes
    make it.

It would be so nice if you could be a good chap and sort out your
posting, you know. Learning how to quote, while leaving an attribution
line in would be nice, as would a working signature delimiter.

You're supposed to be a bright geezer, so how the pond life round here
manages while you **** it up every time is surprising.

Odd. When I opened your URL a security [1] program warned me about the
    site.

[1] Web Of Trust (WOT) says the site is dodgy.

    Exactly :).

At the moment, on the top of Kingsbury (Tahoe Village), but that's
only temporary. We're looking at a few houses in Gardenerville this
afternoon as it's very hard to rent a half-decent house with a garage
for reasonable money on the Nevada side of the lake. Actually, make
    that pretty much impossible.
Small company writing investment analysis software (check my linkedin
profile). The company probably employs most if not all of the C++
programmers who live in this area.

I've heard The Bar of America in Truckee serves good beer. I've only
heard it, mind, from a good friend who used to pan for gold up there.
Then again, if you've been stuck in the boonies for a couple of weeks,
    anything alcoholic prolly tastes good.

Fortunately there are also some bars that are closer :)

Amazing place. One side of the road, everyone drinking, gambling and
generally having fun in great big fancy hotels and casinos. The other side
of the road, California - need I say more?

I actually preferred the California side. The Nevada side (of South Lake
Tahoe, at least) just seemed a seedy run-down side of town where hotels
are rented by the hour and road rage[1] is prevelant.

[1] One of the funniest incidents I ever saw was a bit of a fracas,
baslting of horns, etc, followed by 2 blokes in a pick-up driving after
the person in front as the pick-up passenger is half-out the door, one leg
hopping along the road shouting "YOU WANNA PIECE OF ME?". Absolute
quality moment, and still reminisced by those of us that saw it.

Prevalent? Not in the few weeks we've been here so far. Mind you, it's
between tourist seasons at the moment. Don't judge the Nevada side by
    looking at Stateline, either.

One of the big advantages of the Nevada side is the lack of state
income tax, plus so far it seems that registering vehicles here is
also a lot cheaper than two miles down the road[1].

[1] So who's going to make the obvious comment that this is important
because I have to do it so often?

Exageration for the sake of introducing my story.
I've no other personal experience on which to judge it. Apart from seeing
Las Vegas on TV, and in every instance I've never seen anything that makes
me want to go there... apart from hot babes in Ferraris.

Vegas is full of fat blokes in Ferraris. There's a rental place on 'The
    Strip'
where you can make a fool of yourself for half an hour and $100.
And the hot babes are like impressionist paintings - they look better
    from a distance.
