Aprilia claim 125kg dry for the SXV-5.5. They've given it a 7.8L fuel
tank and they specify an engine rebuild every 60 hours.

Yup, just the thing to take out bush.

Hang on, that was a service, not a rebuild wasn't it ?

    New pistons. Close enough.

Between that and the 8L tank, it's no more versatile than any other mx
bike. It ain't really getting anywhere without a van...

A bit like the bloody Singaporeans and the 'Sydney riots' the
other month. I was all like "what bloody riots?"

  12. Oh yes they did...only in South Australia though.
I _almost_ traded the TDM for one at Pitman's Yamaha in Adelaide (they were
the SA importers at the time--they used to bring in V-Maxes too, until Yamaha
Oz decided to sell them nationwide) while on my way to a BMW rally at
    Waikerie (in 1996 I think).
I only went there to buy a traillie tyre for the back...

Oh! Never actually heard of any, but I can believe it, 'cos the RZ I
got came with a full fairing, which wasn't standard, but, reputed to be
fitted by a dealer in Adelaide.

    Thanks for the correction, Alan.

Any of you mob know of any, lounging about, unwanted, in a shed anyplace?

there is aconsiderable call from journos and others who have actually ridden
    both variants
(enduro and supermoto) to detune the motor by about 10 ponies and have a
    mappable
ignition. You would reckon that a little doodad on the bars could give you
    throttle response
anything from soggy spaghetti noodle to iced up steel garrote these days,
    wot wiv lectroniks
    n'all.

There is also some call to detune the suspenders from full on supermoto -
basically rigid front end - to something that could work on the street

the bikes - to Aprilias credit - are full on race jobs for supermoto

If Aprilia does not detune for street a bit (not too much I ope)
    Then the Japs surely will.

Had a look at the service requirements of any of the enduro/trailies these
    days.?
Need this much servicing due to strictures of getting ungodly performance
    out
    of a 4 stroker instead of a 2 stroker.
I don't think that many people who own these bikes are happy with this.
Hence it would be nice to have half a R1 or GSX or Kwak 1000++
(with 40+ ponies per pot) detuned a little, stuck in a sweet chassis without
    all the
other plastic and metalloid bullshit that gets plastered onto a
    traillie/duallie
these days, something like a drz400 supermoto but with a sweet light twin in
    it.
And a nice dual range box to stop lurch of death in the styx, and gear
    driven cams,
and fuel injection, and an enclosed chain/belt, and a comfy seat

BMW has shown us how to run a parallel twin that doesn't vibrate - could
    even
use the counterbalancer as a kind of roots blower for a 250 twin, but dont
fancy the Japs getting that innovative.

mind you - the only reason I want a hot 250 is because the rego/green slurp
    is fuckin mental
for anything above 300cc these days

the advent of the twin light chookie/duallie is nigh, yay, cant wait

A Holden wagon. They parked it in the middle of the clearing behind
the Police compound, about halfway between the bikers and the cops.
Not a bit of gear in it. Sacrificial car. Somebody lobbed a Molotov at
it and missed. The next four were spot on. The coppers raced out in a
group but changed their mind when more cocktails were lobbed. It burnt
down to a brown shell. I heard later they tried to claim insurance on
it and the Insurance company told them no.

  18. The separate SA/NT Yamaha distributor used to be handy for parts when I had
a TDM850 years ago, Yam Oz would keep minimal stock for the orphan. At
least with SA being different I had another chance of getting parts in
decent time. I wore out a front tyre in the time it took Yam Aust to supply
    a speedo cable.

They did run a few models that the rest of OZ didn't get, the TDR250 and the
V-Max(rest of OZ got it later) being the most memorable

Yah it was good when you could get the Yamaha's that Yamaha Australia
decided were too silly for us Oz lot over in johnoland. Bit of a shame
when that system got swallowed up really.

    I heard about it afterwards....

was busily lounging about down in the paddock camp area, so didn't
actually see or hear much about at the time.
