There was barely a bang on the roads in E. Gippsland during the long weekend. Snr, Serg. Dave Carey (Bairnsdale) was interviewed on local, regional ABC on the subject this morning. He had organized a heavy visual police presence and was very pleased with the lack of activity. He was also quizzed on his just completed road safety program targeting m.bikes, and conducted on the G. A. Hwy, which started last summer. This was funded with resources from the reg'n levee. There was only one minor reported accident during that period. There had been 8 deaths over the previous 5 years. Enforcement was seconded from all about, and I think was mainly a weekend activity.. As some may have found, the tactic used frequently was to have several enforcement units within close proximity to one-another. The area most frequented was Nth of Omeo. Me thinks expect more of the same in the future. This again was the tactic used last weekend; at one stage there were 5 units working between Traralgon and Sale. Rockit
