on Wednesday. He didn't take to the treatment after all and went
    peacefully in his sleep.

Loads of good memories yesterday going through old pics and stuff at
his house with dad. Ironically there was a pristine book on one of his
shelves entitled "Your Prostate" or something like that. Grandad never
    was one for books.

Really will miss the old bugger.(

Commiserations. All my grandparents had the decency to die either before I
was born, or when I was very young. I now only have to deal with my parents
when their time comes (assuming I don't go first).

May they live long and prosper. My dad died nearly six years ago now.
It's very, very difficult to come to terms with even though he was
diagnosed terminally ill ten months before.

They probably still drive you nuts at times but you'll miss them
sooooooooo badly when they're just not there anymore.

Sorry to hear about your loss chap.

I have no grand parents left, seemed they died before I really had the
    opportunity to appreciate them.

Thanks everyone. I bet he's cheating at cards with Grandma right now
and having a right old laugh that he can drink again without his gout
    playing up.

SWMBO suggested "Why don't you wear your uniform to the funeral?" I
must admit I looked at her askance for what seemed an inestimable time
(4 or so seconds). I saved face by replying: "It's not up to me, love,
it's up to the guv." I think I got away with it.

Markeaton Crematorium's right next to the Park, where they took me to
play when I was a kid. I was scared shitless of canoeing on the lake
(until I realised it were only 3' deep and it was fscking funny the
reaction from grandma when I came back sodden)...

the cont known as wreckferret says...
    No doubt.

At my Grandad's burial, the coffin got stuck half way down(1) and had
to be pulled up again whilst 2 blokes jumped in to do some more digging
in order to make him(2) fit. TBH, it was very funny.

(1)The grave diggers were told to make it very wide
    (2)He was a stubborn ****
