The Gippsland media are presently putting out advice from the police, that
they will be organising welcoming committees to greet interstate m.cyclists
daring to enter Vic. from the big race.
There were 2 deaths among the travellers last year,
(perhaps they were in NSW?), and they don't want a repeat this year.
I posted on the policing of The Great Alpine Road a while back, (hope that I
don't make another unintended spelling mistake here). One of the messages
that I gave was: because you've avoided one, don't think that there won't be
    any more

I'd avoid all A-routes in Gippsland, myself. Thankfully, I generally do.
There's better ways to get to the Island anyway.

You're pretty much stuck with the road onto the Island itself, so I
recommend travelling at a legal pace, being entirely certain to
indicate, and riding a BMW doesn't hurt either.

Last year there was also a violent hail storm that turned a section of
the Princes Highway just west of Moe into a skating rink, causing
    several riders to come unstuck.
Perhaps we should have the Bureau of Meteorology there as well.

A 44 yo was killed near Drouin on the Sunday as well, the boys give the
South Gippsland Hwy a flogging to between Lang Lang and the Island. Cann
River to Sale on the Princess is also hot as well, B roads are the safest
    IMHO.
See you all at the Andystraps Stand at the Expo Tent.

If it hurts, you're doing it wrong!

I can cope with riding respectfully for a couple of Ks between Bass and
the Island. At GP time there's not too many chances to do anything much
disgraceful on the PI access road anyway.

(Besides, by the time I get there I need a rest after riding the ridges
    and valleys of SW Gippsland.)
