Got my bike back from the dealer in August, they had had to replace
the starter relay to get the bike to start : http://tinyurl.com/qcmr

Well, today just as I got to work my bike cut out. Wouldn't restart -
no noise at all from the starter motor. Get the recovery guy out, and
he manages to start it by shorting the starter motor. Not a great way
to have to get the bike going every day.

So it's back at the dealers, with a request to make sure it stays
    fixed this time please.

Reckon it's the same problem, starter relay gone. Anyone got any
suggestions on a deeper cause that could be making them relays go pop?
    Reg/Rec?

Or just the dealer not fitting it right and it working loose or
something stupid? They're supposed to be the best dealers in the area
and I'll be really annoyed if I trekked 25 miles (okay, made the
recovery truck trek it) to get it bodged ...

    TIA

Is the GPZ500 the go faster version of the ER5?

If so then I had a similar problem on my ER5. It turned out to be shit
in the starter switch on the handlebars. The clever mend it man took
the switch apart cleaned it put it back and vroommmmmmmm
vroommmmmmmmm. He recommended that I squirt it with WD40 from time to
time, didn't have the difficulty again. But I didn't keep the bike for
too much longer, only 6 months.

    Just a thought.

I won't post that until I find out what's up this time - only fair
    really!

Don't joke about it being knackered - I knew it was a risk buying a
    Riossi bike ...

For very small values of "go faster" :)
Cool, I shall attend to that when I re-acquire the bike.

  7. The Simple answer is check the sidestand cutout switch. IIRC the
starter is interlocked with this and the damn thing won't start unless
it works properly. The bad news is that the switches are 50p
microswitches, not up to having road crap thrown at them. So they die.

This is what you do: find the switch at the top of the sidestand.
Unplug the connectors from it and use a piece of wire to short the
connectors together, then wrap the connectors with electrical tape.
    Then give it a try.

Another answer, if the starter relay makes a buzzing sound rather that
clicking in properly, is a low battery charge, or knackered battery.

    Mark.
