GPZ 500z rear wheel shims?

  1. Hi,

I'm just fettling my new to me GPZ. Yesterday the rear brake felt
rather poorly, very poor effort, a bit graunchy, with the pedal
vibrating bouncing up and down as it was applied. It felt fine 400
miles back. So I pulled it apart to have a look see.....

The shoe friction material looked to be only slightly worn, but looked
very lumpy surfaced (pitted) rather than smooth faced, and quite
black/oily looking. There were also signs that something (the shoes?)
had been catching the web of the wheel alloy (the shoes?). Before
anyone asks, no brake has not been stuck partially applied. There is no
indication in the drum/hub that the oil or grease (if that is what it
is) originated from there. I've ordered up a new pair of shoes, but in
    the meantime....

The RH side bearing (inside the hub) seems to be held in by an internal
circlip, with the brake plate pushing directly against the inner of the
bearing. I suspected there ought to be a shim washer between the two
(none shown in the diagram), which someone had lost. I also suspected
there should have been a grease seal there(?), but the Haynes manual
indicated one was only fitted on the EX500D, mine is a EX500A4. The
    bearings were fine BTW.

Your thoughts please gentlemen, whilst I await delivery of some new
    shoes?
