I've got an iPAQ 4150 with TomTom Navigator 5 software and a bluetooth
GPS unit that I use in the car. Since I've already got the expensive
hardware, seems stupid not to consider fitting it to a bike.

Has anyone fitted their PDA/GPS to their bike? If so, what did you use?

I've done a bit of a search and found one set of products:

    http://www.ram-mount.com/products/motorcycles.htm
    http://www.ram-mount-uk.com/handlebar-mounts.htm

They seem reasonably cheap from http://www.gpsw.co.uk/

If I fancied riding in the wet, which I don't, you can get an otterbox
    for the system too.

    Anyone used/recommend it?

Where can I get some cables with bare wires from to power them?

I stick mine in the top (clear) pocket of my tank bag.

All depends on what bike you have - tubular bars make mounting dead
easy, it's a bit harder with clip-on type bars, though
GPSW sell cables that hook your iPaq up to a fag lighter socket. Just
wire one of those straight to the battery (remember to use an inline
fuse) and put the socket either under the seat or drill a hole in a
fairing panel and mount it there.

Yes please (SV650S is on my list of bikes to consider).

What's all this jibber-jabber about vibrations damaging the PDA? Do
you need a bit of foam to sit the PDA on?

I must admit that if it's too much hassle I'll not use it after a week,
and I'm already looking for ways to make my car mount easier to use.

I've not had a problem with it. Although I rarely use mine directly in
the map pocket thing on top of the tank. It's usually cushioned from
    vibration by the tank bag.

  6. I have my tom tom 5 on my hp2210 attatched to my r1 with a holder then
attached to the bike with cable ties that you cant see. My sat receiver is
in the tail of the bike which is all part of a tracking system I got from
Samtrac. If you send me your email add ill send you some pics. Works
fantastic and is very tidy and easy to take the ipaq off.

David Mahon fumbled, fiddled and fingered:
I've used my similarly equipped pocket pc in my tank bag with an
    earpiece and it works well.

However, I now use my phone with headset and it works just as well but
    is neater.
