Dave, you might be interested to know that the Mildura Ulysses are having an
    impostor talk to them.

He's a certain Dave Millington of Get Rooted, according to their newsletter.

That's a bit harsh, I think we can let a standard vegetable pass.

(I was about to say that all of the herbs and spices are vegetables anyway,
but I was smart enough to check first and sure enough, one of them isn't...)

Anyone brave enough to attempt a pun on Arugula, Zedoary or Lovage?

  3. Sy Nunan's a nice guy but he did keep referring to me as Dave
Millington when I was there talking to them.

Plenty of members interested in going to NZ with their bikes and 3
wanting to do next years Isle of Man TT tour, which surprised me.

Still if people don't do the IoM TT in the next 3 years they will miss
out and that message is starting to get through now.

    Kind regards

Ah yes - I was overseas on the 1st anniversary (would have been around June
24 based on my records). Did we celebrate it in an appropriately
    dysfunctional fashion?

Shit - replying to myself. Was going through my archives and found this post
from Clem - one of my all-time faves:

    (Clem on Dec 17, 2003)
I'm having a weird episodes where I can imagine everyone in church turning
to the person next to them and saying "**** you" and responding with "and
    also **** you".
    I LOVE Harsh Week!

Yep; it was totally rooted Johno.
It was getting embarrassing when I couldn't get enough grip to drag cars
off from the lights. (..and frustrating when your bike major strongpoint
    is it's torque!)

I didn't wanna' tackle a clutch on an BMW with my lack of experience with
the model and since I've seen what was involved I'm glad I left it to an
    expert.

Shit it was weird being back on the XJ! (Look out I'm changing lanes "beep
    beep")

I use a Garmin Etrex. Strapped it to the handlebars. As a trip computer
it's OK and that's the main use for it. That and an accurate speedo.

Got a cable that plugs into the serial port and use it in conjunction
with some freeware/shareware GPS software. Mainly to enter in waypoints.

Got some mapping software recently. Overlayed a Vic/NSW map and then
plotted waypoints. Enter in a route (series of waypoints starting with
departure point, and ending with destination. Tells you then how far and
how long to get to the next waypoint. Handy if you're heading into
places unknown. Not sure whether to turn left or right, the GPS will
indicate the direction to the next point.

Naturally, on a map it draws straight lines between points. And this
doesn't give exact trip distances as roads aren't straight....

During your journey it tracks where you've been, and this can be
plotted on a map using GPS software. The Etrex stores about 250 km of
data before old data is overwritten.

The mates use Etrexes on their dirt biking ventures into the mountains
around here, particularly on rides from Walhalla to Dargo, to Licola,
etc. Perfect for that sort of thing. Provided of course, your maps are
    accurately calibrated in the software....

I've been using an etrex legend for a while and recently bought a
    StreetPilot 2610.

The StreetPilot 2610 is a much better model due to the automatic
routing facility when going places. You only need to enter an address
and it tells you when and where to turn and how long till you arrive
at your destination. Most GPSs also have heaps of other extras.

Update your firmware, sounds like you are using D.A.S.T and an older
firmware on the Meridian. (try rev# 5.12 assuming you are running a
    Meridian "Gold")

    @yahoo.com.au:

Ditch the Routes (basically usless IMO) and use tracks* instead and then
"backtrack" over the track, works a treat on a non mapping GPS like the
    Etrex.

If you want to be really "flash" hook a Pocket PC up beside the Etrex add
OziCE and a cable and have movings maps as you travel about.

    * This presumes you can digitise a track via your mapping software.

At least Garmin went CF with this model but the inability to archive the
track logs to CF is IMO a HUGE downside.

Garmins have never been able to archive tracklogs to data cards. They
do usually have a number (10-15) saved track logs which the SP2610
does not have. Not the end of the earth for an auto unit but a bit of
a pain if you are off roading.
