After a week in Goulburn, which has involved daily transit past the
police college on my way to work, I am yet to even have an encounter
with the famed Goulburn HWP, let alone a negative one. Perhaps it has
something to do with not being a hoon and generally riding in a
sensible and legal manner? :p Anyway, all is good so far, and maybe
I'll even get in a decent ride every now and then! The next few weeks
is going to be pretty hectic, preparing for exams (unias well as all
the usual stuff, but otherwise...if any Canberra people are planning
rides up this way then let me know.

I've never had a run-in with the infamous Goulburn HWP myself, although just
about everyone that I know has....

I lived in Goulburn for a short while before moving to Canberra though, and
had a peculiar experience with the Goulburn coppers one night while driving
my daughter's friend home late late late at night (the dopey kid had never
had a sleepover in her life, and got all homesick and said she felt ill and
wanted to go home). So there I was in mismatched trackies and the daggiest
dressing gown in the world, driving an ancient Toyota stationwagon along
this kid's street at very low speed looking for her house, and I got pulled
over by the cops (going too slow???) The crunch crunch of boots on the
gravel was almost too much for me, and when he said "Evening, mate," in that
really beefy copper voice I almost peed myself... I squeaked in my girliest
voice "Good evening, was I doing something wrong?" and he peered into the
car and saw the little woman in awful trackies, daggy dressing gown and
fluffy slippers, and suddenly became heroically apologetic. I wasn't a local
hood cruising the streets and casing the houses at all.... (but I was SO
    embarrassed!)

    Ah.... good ol' Goulburn!

I think I might drop in next weekend for a hot chocolate at Rimbolin or a
coffee at the Paragon... - am heading to a birthday lunch in Sydney on
Saturday, so I think I might drop into Goulburn on the way home on
Sunday.... have a little nostalgia trip and check out my old house...

I've done the Bateman's Bay trip many a time from Canberra, although I
don't think I ever did it on the bike. The ride up to Moss Vale isn't
too bad if you turn off at Marulan and go up through Bundanoon etc,
but it gets a LOT better when you get to Kangaroo Valley. There are a
lot of roads yet to get to know, but a lot already known also, which
helps. All I need now is to actually have the time for a decent
    ride...school holidays soon though! :-D
It's quite amusing watching the crowd of them go jogging past the
house with their police escort, I must say. No idea when the intakes
are, or how long they are here for though. Probably a good thing to be
too old to be a real hoon any more - although still young enough to be
    able to remember it! :)

    Interesting. Congrats to missus.

She may well find that when she next renews her licence, the auto-only
condition disappears. Especially if she renews far away from the RTA
    Head Office. ;-)
