I finally got around to the '72 Yamaha CT1 that had the broken eccentric
shaft broken (between the shifter hairpin)
Everything went smooth. I reassembled the clutch and used bel-ray gear oil
in the case. I had a problem starting it again because the carb was all
crusty. I cleaned that out, and put it back on.. The points were a bit
cruddy as well so i used a nail file to clean them. She fired right up and
ran decent. (I suspect the carb could use another taking apart and cleaning
    session)
But the clutch is a little wacky still. I adjusted the clutch so i could
ride it but it seems to slip a little. I'm hoping that it just needs to be
ridden and adjusted some more. I had an old honda that sat outside and the
clutch did the same thing until it finally got worn in. Anyone have any
    thoughts on the clutch?
I forgot how quick the 2-cycle motors are, gave me a little wake up!
Bike cleaned up nice, here's a pic:

That's a hard bike to beat for fun. That was the first bike I ever
popped a wheelie on. (1970). OF

    Hey walt,

looks like you already 'george'd the left side cover, was that part of
the 'wakeup' you described? I had one on a bike I did, fall off on the
maiden voyage... (been there done that)

it is neat to get old bikes running & looking good. Like they say on that
car tv show on pbs (sometimes I see it on what used to be TNN) you know that
guy with the big curled up mustache, "Dont crush em, rebuild em"

Until I got back into trials again I had found, and fixed up a 100dt, it had
the electric start. It was sweet too, all original orange metelic, slighty
faded on one side of the tanke, where sun could reach it in the shed, in the
winter months. Last non family owned project was a really nice honda 73 or
so st125 twin, I wish I had ended up with that one. I had pics that seem to
    be misplaced after the divorce...

The oil tank was already scraped up when i received the bike. I haven't
spilled it yet, the wake up happened when i went back in my yard and was
climbing up a hill, that thing got a little squirrly at the ass end.
This bike was really a find. A co-worker was looking to get it out of a
friends yard and he gave it to me... free!
It needed a little tlc (and reassembly) but so far so good.
The last bike i received for free was a '75 cb360 street bike. I stripped it
down and slapped some nobbys on her (along with some modifications) The
honda layed outside for a couple years without the tank or carbs.

I'm thinking of doing something similar with this bike, not sure yet.
A trials bike would be cool but i dont think i could physically appreciate
one... too many beers and donuts!

very cool picture, that does look like fun. Your Dad is closing in on 70 and
    still rides competitively?, that's awesome!
thanks for sharing that. I have a '91 harley, '73 triumph, two mini-bike
choppers, a go-kart, and this '71 yamaha in the garage. If a trials bike
shows up now, my wife will murder me!

    DUDE!
I took my wife to the hospital to have our eldest daughter on a bike
almost identical to your CT... Mine was a 175cc.
That was in 1975; the kid wasn't waiting.
The MP at the gate of Madigan Army med ctr didn't believe she was in
    labor so blew the gate.
1/2 hr. later it was a done deal.
    Thanks for the memory flashback;
    nice scooter:)

that's a cool story! here's a cool little video of the bike. Keep in mind
i'm a fat guy, the bike is old and there's a tree right next to me. Pretty
week wheelie, but fun none the less. (1.33mb download, avi MOV file)
