Got a speeding ticket

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Paul Carmichael, Aug 7, 2008.

  1. 140 in a 120. 100 euros with a 30% discount if paid on time.

Says on the ticket (automated) "You have committed a grave offence..."
Then goes on to say "This offence does not affect your licence" (no
points). Doesn't bother me anyway as I have a brit licence. Kind of
suggests that here it's even more of a cash collection system here than
in Blighty, as at least in the yuk with totting up for minor speeding
offences, your licence can be taken away preventing you from paying any
    more speeding fines.

However, here in the summer, if you chuck a fag-end out of the window
it's 4 points and a fine. If said fag-end starts a fire, foreign licence
or no, you're away for a few years.

Good idea IMO. A few years ago I was hit in the face by a discarded
cigarette end. Police didn't want to know.

Eh? Spanish licences have points and have had for a while now.
Officially, you should now trade in your licence for a Spanish one. But
I'll be surprised if they can be bothered chasing it up.
It's not just the summer though, is it?

that reminds me - I got flashed by the camera in the Rotherhide
tunnel, doing about ~15% over the limit. How long between flashing and
getting the NIP? This was about 6 weeks ago - is it safe?

They have 14 days to issue the NIP, but that means **** all if you
don't receive it. Issuing the ticket simply means sending it out, they
don't take any responsibility for you not getting it. You have to prove
they didn't issue the ticket within the alloted time

It's one more case where you are guilty until you prove yourself
innocent, and with no access to the ticket office and their records
there is no possible way of proving they didn't send it within the
time. I tried to get access to the ticket office records, I was refused.

  12. Erm, did you read my post? They have points but this grave speeding
    offence doesn't cost any points.
Erm, who told you that? It used to be the case and got changed years ago.
Nobody told the Guardia Civil and they kept on fining people who had then
    to reclaim the fine money.
