  1. UKRM is just a symptom. I blame the internet.

Perfectly rational people with useful and productive lives can become
vindictive and bitter people in a matter of weeks and blame "everybody
else" because they've chosen to throw their lives away and become a
slave to it. It's like a drug: You hate it but you just can't help
    yourself.

Where's the nearest internet rehab? I want to go there.

I don't see what people keep moaning on about. If it's so bad compared
to it's "former self" then **** off. Go and play something else or
read the archives instead of bleating on about it here. How the ****
    is it going to help?

I think people should be able to moan all they want without other
people moaning, unless they want to.
Who the **** ever came here for help?

I don't tend to hold back when telling someone that they're an arse.
Then I get slagged off for it.

    I can't fucking win.

Exactly. I read and post to UKRM because a lot of people I know and
like read and post to UKRM. When there's no-one posting that I like,
I'll unsubscribe. Can't see it happening.

If Loz is right then that's exactly what's wrong. Take your moaning
    and shove it.

(in the nicest possible way, of course)

He was just having a moan, makes a change from harping on about
    heart attacks I suppose.
I wasn't moaning, so stop whinging.

One of the reasons I like it is the opportunity to people-watch.
Seeing which people are drawn to what threads, how they react when
poked or when a comment comes along that they can't resist. I also get
to see how I've joined in, which in itself is interesting.

Also, the mental image of the pub analogy is comical. Someone moaning
about the state of the real ale, someone fitting a CCTV camera to watch
his pint while he nips to the bog, a few new folk walking on their
hands and claiming it's much better.

  18. Really?

I only bought a PC and got on the internet to see if the porn was as
good as the news said it was.

OK, so now I've seen all the porn I'm likely to see, and having learnt a
few other things on the way, I'm bored. I do it because there is no
alternative. I'd gladly do something else but being distracted for long
enough to break the habit is going to be a challenge.

I'm sure I won't really miss it but will there be times I *have* to use
it, and is it the *way* I'm using it that's the problem rather than the
fact I'm using it at all.[1]

I did alright without email, the web and usenet before. I used to have
friends, a well paid job and a nice house in the country. I had a life
to go with it, too - Nothing flash, just nice, simple.

[1] I used to feel the same about giving up the gear and in retrospect,
I think the internet is just a replacement for that.

    Cheers, son.

Oh - your sync cable is out of stock. I'll try again in a couple of
    weeks.

Hang on, no I won't - I'll send you my one and replace my own. That's
    a better plan.
