How do these work? Yesterday I was doing a search, put one term in and
then searched for 'problems with' (without the quotes) and the very
first drop down suggestion was what I was about to type. None of the
words in that were in the original search. Today putting 'problems
with' gives me 'facebook' as the first drop down.

I'm using firefox on xp and google uk.

As an experiment if you put 'problems with' what is the first option
you get and does it relate to anything you were looking at earlier in
    the day?

    I get:
"problems with stupid people asking stupid questions on Usenet")

Seriously, and 'cos I'm *really* bored, the list is:

    "problems with facebook"
"problems with the articles of confederation"
    "problems with snow leopard"
    "problems with internet explorer 8"
    "problems with health care"
    "problems with facebook today"
    "problems with gmail"
    "problems with vista"
    "problems with univeral health care"
"problems with no child left behind"

Facebook is the only thing I have anything to do with.

Dunno - but I have little interest in any of the topics that appear in my
google dropdown list for 'problems with' and I haven't searched for them or
anything similar at any time in the last few months.

I guess the type-ahead is the mostly commonly entered search strings
that begin with what you're typing. But yes, they may also be related
to what you've searched for that day, as google can relate searches
    from the same IP address.

However, exactly how it works will be a closely guarded secret as
Google always are about how they rank things to prevent people gaming
    the results.

I believe the standard test for an SEO company is to put SEO into
Google and see where their company is in the results...

Which had nothing at all to do with anything.
Otoh, if I had been at all bothered about calculus, global warming, the
mating habits of elephants, or Olympic swimming pools, I'd have been
    happy beyond my wildest dreams.
