When planning a route, I tend towards the french style of knowing
which *places* I want to go towards, and using road numbers as a
    backup.
It's served me better than following people with GPS, put it that
way. Except when leaving the Black Horse.

  5. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember "Andrewr At Work"

  6. No, I honestly wasn't having a go either at you ('cos I'd be oblivious
to Google maps if I hadn't read your post, which would be a bad thing)
or at Google (who state that it's a beta-quality service and therefore
shouldn't be relied upon), but I did feel the need to let people know
that it's definitely a bit fucked in places at the moment!

    Ding. Or I follow someone.

I thought it quite an impressive double pass.

Yes yes, but they do usually appear in map books (as does the IOM) for the
    UK.

That really depends on the map.

The UK road Atlas I have has both IOM and the CI in it.

Do you have a map book that claims to be of the UK that does not have them
    in it?

Dunno - I'd have to look. But I'm fairly sure the book I keep in the
car doesn't even have Northern Ireland on it.

Be fair though, that map has "Here be Dragons" on it for Essex.
And you've had it since new....

I don't think I've ever had a road atlas of the UK that *did* have
    the channel islands in it.

But Dan's convinced me by extrapolating from a single data point,
so my maps must be wrong.

    Two actually.

And why should my viewpoint by any less/more influential than your one?
