Good places to stop and eat at

Discussion in 'Texas Bikers' started by Westexas Rider, Aug 29, 2009.

  1. This has been discussed before but it doesn't hurt to post a reminder.

I guess everyone in North Central Texas knows about Mary's in Srawn.
They serve good food and more on the plate than most people can eat in
one sitting. Steaks, seafood and everything in between.

Another (if you don't mind a chain restaurant), is Montana's in Graham
and the one in Weatherford. Joe says the summertime scenery is better
in Weatherford. I wonder what he meant by that? ;)

Sanderson's in Graham is good too. They have a lunch buffet that
pretty good and they vary it daily.

Mineral Wells has the El Paseo, which has a bar and some of the better
    Mexican food around.

Jackson's at Possum Kingdom Lake (FM2353) is fair dining but the best
catfish I ever ate is on the north/west side, at Fox Hollow. Mmm,
    good!

Cisco has Linda's Corner Cafe on 183 North, for good home cooking and
all you can eat catfish on Friday nights. The steaks on Saturday
night is pretty darn good too. I don't know if the BBQ place is still
open on 183 in town but their brisket and ribs were pretty tasty.
Their beans, tater salad and coleslaw was good too.

Breckenridge has Catalina's on 180 East, across from the 7-11. Daily
buffets and decent chicken-fried steaks. There is also Ernie's and
Familia (both Mexican restaurants) on 180 West. I prefer Familia.
The food seems to taste better. I83 going south out of town has the
Pit Stop BBQ. It's not bad either.

Albany has the Bee Hive but they aren't open often enough. I wasn't
all that impressed though. The prices are high and the wait is long.

There is a good Mexican restaurant North of Brownwood on the way to
Cross Plains that's good. Good food at a reasonable price. Don't ask
me the name, just watch for all the cars in one spot. hehehe

Cross Plains has Jean's Feed Barn. Good home-cooked meals, decent
prices and good service. Daily specials, open 7 days a week.

I haven't found a decent place to eat in Abilene. The Texas
Steakhouse was as close to good as I've seen there. If anyone knows
better, I'd sure like to hear about it.

Well, that's my list of favorites in this area. I'd like to hear
about everyone else's favorites... besides Hooters. ;^)

  3. Sorry, meant "Strawn", in Palo Pinto County, near (north of) I-20 but
    I bet you knew that.

You want the scenic route, or the main slab route?
For you, the round-about scenic route: Hwy 180 West, past Palo Pinto
to 16 South, you'll come into Strawn.
More direct scenic route: Head west on I-20 to the first Gordon exit,
Hwy 193. Go thru Gordon, then Mingus. Take 108 into Strawn.
Main slab route: From Ft. Worth, stay on I-20 West to the Strawn Exit
    (Hwy 16 N).

BTW, Strawn isn't very big. If you can't find Mary's, you need
    glasses. ;^)

    I know.
Yep. I remember an anniversary dinner that you and the Sheriff
treated me and Joe to, some time back. I think that may have been our
31st, maybe 32nd... been a while. Hard to believe that Joe and I just
hit the big 35 on the 16th of this month.
    Told ya. :)
The people are just fine but it ain't the grub.
Ah, I bet it's better than that chicken place over by the VA. Thanks,
    I'll make sure Joe knows.
    Need a bigger bike? hehe

  6. I love their coconut cream pies. My favorite. The meringue is like a
snow-covered mountain of goodness. Now you've done it. I'll have to
drag Joe over there one day soon.

  7. Hey, I'd like that.
I was just in the hospital myself and will have to go back shortly,
but we will have to plan on meeting at The Koffee Kup, one of these
days real soon. Maybe some of the other guys can muster up and join
us. I know Big Ed wouldn't mind... at least if someone else is
    buying. hehehe

I hope all goes well for your "other half". All my best to you both.

"Tony's" is a great Italian mode restaurant for those interested
in the Dallas area. It's located just a couple of miles east of
White Rock Lake, on Northwest Highway. (URL follows)

It is BYOB for those interested in drinking, has a wide variety of
Italian cuisine offerings, and can/will stack up early in the even-
    ings with waiting patrons.

    Yeah....

We've always loved every pizza enjoyed there.
We've always loved every "Tony's chicken & cheese salad"
enjoyed there. But, we've had to retreat to the half portion
salad due to the extreme volume of the full portion.
We've also loved the manicotti and lasagna enjoyed there.
My wife has always loved her calzone enjoyed there. But,
I'm just not a calzone guy, We call it the "football". If you
    see it, you'll know why.

But again, the place fills quickly, especially on the week-
end evenings. We try to go in the mid-afternoon times.
