I got my renewal notice through at the start of this month from H&R to find they wanted £450 to cover me for another year. A quick on-line quote with them turned out at £274, so I thought they were taking the piss a bit adding a 60-odd percent mark-up. Anyway, Carole Nash matched the £274 quote, so I decided to go with them, paid up on Saturday and got the documents this morning ... .... to find that instead of giving me class 1 business use, that I asked for, they've given me SD&P _excluding_ commuting to and from a place of work! According to customer services they want an extra £50 to allow me to commute and an extra hundred for business use. So they can shove their policy up their arse and I'll have to swallow my pride and go back to H&R. On the bright side, I had my renewal today from Auntie Carole. My 3 bikes plus breakdown cover, legal cover, cover for riding other bikes, all the usual malarkey for the grand total of £88. I paid it quickly before they changed their minds. For that kind of price it`s hardly worth even trying to shop around.

You were having a go at my missus? I ... I don't know how to feel. -- AndrewR, D.Bot (Celeritas) Kawasaki ZX-6R J1, Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo BOTAFOT#2,ITJWTFO#6,UKRMRM#1/13a,MCT#1,DFV#2,SKoGA#0 (and KotL) BotToS#5,SBS#25,IbW#34, DS#5, COSOC# Suspended, KotTFSTR# The speccy Geordie twat.
Well, there was a little criticsim, yes. Mostly more a bit of general puzzlement. Don't worry, it's only the internet.
I've recently had to shop around for the car insurance, after Direct Line doubled the premium[1]. After a go on www.confused.com [2] I called a few more people, the last putting me onto "call connections" - some middle-man that takes a few details, does a confused.com style thing then connects you to a likely lot. They quoted a good 40 quid cheaper than the cheapest, so went with them. So, if anyone's got any horror stories about Direct Motor Line, tell them now while I'm in the cooling off bit. Ta. All in all, 200 quid saved, so that's good. [1] I did change cars partway through the policy, so it wasn't unexpected. [2] I think I got the link from here, but worth repeating - handy site, type your details in and 20-odd quotes come back.
I was with Direct Line, then a year on the renewal came through - up 55%, so I queried and they said "first year new business discount removed and things have gone up in the last year" sort of bollocks..... that £460 first year insurance went up to £750 odd, and eventually I renewed at £385 after ringing around - Direct Line catch you then hope you won't leave / notice the second year's premium, like most I guess unless you ring around every year...... In the 3rd Millenium, on Mon, 25 Jul 2005 13:00:40 +0100, "AndrewR" Same thing happened to me with H&R the year before last. I pointed out to them that they had valued the bike as though it was still only a year old. 'That won't make much difference' says they. When I told them that it made around £200 difference on their on-line quote they eventually quoted me a price even cheaper than the on-line price.
I've got my car insured with their spanish branch. They are heavily pushing their bike insurance here, so I asked for a quote, only to be told that one has to have a car policy with them for 13 months before they'll insure a bike. Odd. -- Paul. I'm quite chuffed with that whole insurance deal. Apparently I can drive other cars on my car policy and other bikes on my bike policy. Woo-hoo! <grin>
