Have you any idea how long it takes to build up a trusting
    relationship?
I'm not arguing against the failures. I'm saying there are other kids
who'd be put in a worse position by your original 'sack the fucking
    lot of them' position.

  2. Watson was getting fed up with Holmes's endless discourse on the way of
the pun and burst out in exaperation, "Oh, spare me your Holmes' pun
    philosophy!"

Obviously you think they didn't perform badly enough to be sacked but
you're entitled to your opinion. I'm not going to shift my view that
they should be thrown out of the door and never allowed to work near
children again so I'll leave you to it on this one.

Just checking. That clarifies your position very well.
Frag said, "I feel saddened by deaths when I stop and think about them".
So I suppose it is a question of what prompts the stopping and thinking.
I would agree that frequently getting morbid over the general human
condition isn't intrinsic to being 'human'. That way lies depression.

Interesting. How does one acquire or develop a sense of injustice -
nature or nurture? I would submit that compassion and 'justice' have a
common root in the principle of "do to others as you would have done to
you". That is possibly a development of innate "theory of mind", but an
individual's life experience, upbringing and dare I say education lead
to a wide range of both 'virtues'[1].

Psychopaths at one extreme, abnormal selflessness at the other may be
genetically determined. The rest of us are somewhere in the central
    tendency bell curve.

I suppose the importance of justice can be taught or acquired without
imagining oneself on the receiving end of injustice IYSWIM, as a purely
logical or philosophical exercise, without any empathic concern, but I
    have my doubts.

[1] Couldn't think of a more apt word. Try to ignore any religious
    baggage that comes with it.

Of course they can and nobody I know has ever said they won't go on
the tube in case of a terrorist attack but nobody I know has ever
given a big "so what" if somebody gets killed in a terrorist attack.
Apart from the obvious 9-11 when they were only merkins so didn't
    count.

I don't think i'd be lying if I said I've suffered from depression more
    than the average.

But which one leads to which?

    A classic vicious circle.

Tricky, but IMO it's one thing to mull over your own personal human
condition, but another kettle of fish to regularly agonise over the fate
of the rest of the entire human race IYSWIM.

    Anyway, enough of this gloom.

if nobody stole vehicles or had accidents, insurance would be unnecessary
