You think people who didn't steal other people's bikes when they were
teenagers shouldn't be allowed to pass comment about those that did?

By that token, the stupid people will take over the world eventually.

It's the march of the morons.

Have you noticed that strange thing that keeps biting you on the ankle ?.
It is called a philosohical argument.

Not a very good one. It presupposes telepathy.

It's a minor plot device in this story:

    <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Marching_Morons>

Essentially all vehicles are fitted with speedos that massively overread -
everybody thinks they're tearing around at 100mph, when they're actually
    only doing 40mph.

Oh, OK, I was expecting something about chaos theory and evolution. Some
comments in this thread seems to be along the 'Darwin Awards' line.
As if. Clearly caring about the death of every member of humanity is
extreme, and not good for mental hygiene.

It seemed to me that some people were taking delight in the death of
another individual they knew almost nothing about.

    About humanity in general, true.
Nothing wrong with a bit of empathy IMO in some circumstances though
    biker boys.

Competition for food is not really an issue in the developed world,
mainly because we have limited out population growth. In the third
world, especially Africa, the issues are more complex.
There are no simple answers, but death from anything other than "natural
causes" is almost always premature although death from natural causes
may be premature if the death could have been prevented by timely
    medical or other intervention.
Ideally we should all expire peacefully as a result of old age.

He has discovered already the damage they can do to a bike. I always
watch him as he rides his impromptu circuit. Spoilsport that I am, I
sometimes wave him down and tell him to back off a bit. Even after one
such bit of advice he lost it and ended up snapping the front brake
lever off on a tree and bruising his elbow as a result. That slowed him
    down.
I don't feel qualified to do this matter justice. Paging Champ. Though
TBF competition riding, even in my limited experience, is not the same.

    Yersh.

When road racing, I never consciously thought "ooh, I don't want to
crash here", because if I had, I'd have never got on the bike to start
with. There are some bits that scare me more than others, but that
may be counter-intuitive - the place I crashed was one of my fave
places where I wasn't scared at all.

That doesn't sound counter-intuitive. It sounds like a recipe for
    disaster.

By this argument, 'natural causes' has changed massively over time.
And also leaves huge holes - say I get eaten by a shark while swimming
on hols in Aus - is that a 'natural cause'? If not, how would you
mitigate against it - kill all sharks? Ban swimming?
There's no such cause of death as 'old age'.
