Good breakdown cover - do I even need it?

Since I haven't got breakdown cover with my insurance I may get some
'direct'. I haven't bothered before, the VFR ran breakdown free for 9
years and my 1000GTRs before that similarly. Is the MAG breakdown
cover for £40 OK, that seems pretty reasonable for UK and Europe.

Simple answer, same as for any insurance. If you can afford the hit on
the odd occasion a claim might be necessary, then you don't "need" the
    insurance.

  3. Sounds good, check the cover. I've got CSMA for cars and bikes in this
country although CN also cover the bike IYSWIM. I'd not really be
concerned about bike cover in this country, usually you can with help
recover a bike. Abroad it can be a different story unless you choose
    the Sean/Big Tony method.

emerged from their own little world to say
    Quotelinedirect.co.uk - Europ Assistance policy £59

I've got it for my car. Identical T&Cs to the EA policy that CNash provides
    for the bike.

depends, don't forget on many roads, eg motorways, vehicle removal is
compulsory, and threfore expensive, so even a flat tyre which I can get
fixed inc labour for a nail puncture for 6 quid at my local protyre
(inc wheel removal etc) can cost an additional 150 quid if I'm 5 miles
    up the M5 between junctions.

my insurance is only 120 quid fully comp all bells and whistles
including breakdown cover, so it ain't worth fussing over.

don't forget, YOU are covered by most breakdown policies, so you can be
on any bike or even the back of someone else and still have cover.

if you never go more than 100 miles from home and can pretty much
guarantee to have 24/7 access to someone with a bike trailer then no,
save the money, and if you moped / scooter commute then ditto,
otherwise it's a sensible way to blow the equivalent of one filter
cigarette every three days in money terms.

    YMMV

The brother biker to whom I recently gave assistance in his moment of

Do read the small print before buying.

Your use of the word *most* is incorrect. *Some* would be more appropriate.

AA & RAC give personal cover as standard on all of their breakdown cover.
There may be other companies too.

With most other policies it is a specified vehicle that is covered for any
driver. Some policies allow you to pay extra to have personal cover but
    many don't.
