This reminded me of that thread awhile ago about sillouettes/casualty
    figures marking 'good bends' ...

detailing where most of the 'incidents' occur along the A413. Anyone been
along there recently to see if the Plod presence is up?

    From here :
    http://www.saferroads.org/DisplayPage.asp?pageid=147 which lists 'problem'
    roads.

Strangely some of them are somewhat decent on a bike - coincidence? :)
Don't really understand how the A4074 gets so many accidents though, but
    anyway.

That't the start of the route for the 'FOT, you should try to make it some
    time.

    <snip>

Did the 4011 and the 4012 today - they do indeed have the yellow signs out,
just in the right places to distract you :)

The one at the start of the 4012 says something like "90 casualties on this
road in three years, 13 motorcyclists" - What are the other 77 then?

Was a good ride, though I haven't done those roads in ages and it almost
felt shorter then I remember - not sure why. I also don't fully understand
how some of the corners have the casualty figures they do, but anyway.

Forgot to put my headlight on though and had two 'near misses' with cars
overtaking into me - not sure if it was 'knob day out' or cause of the
    headlight.

I think Simon was calling you a knob (for clarity).

  14. Why not?

I can understand the logic if the sun is right behind you, but what's
the harm in having your headlamp on on a bright day?

  15. The other thought is that most bikes (not all) have permanent magnet
alternators. They are wacking out all the amps they can all the time.
Any power that's not used by the bike has to be shunted to earth
through the voltage regulator - and on a few bikes these are already
    marginal.

Anything to make their lives easier must be a good thing right?

Serious question, does point 1 enter into your 'calculations' at all?

Or, is it more that the safety squad insist on lights under all
condidtions and you're just being awkward?

Ah, that makes a little more sense. I just wouldn't have expected you
to do things for 'safety's sake'. That's not to say I believe you to be
    deliberately safety-averse.
Which is more of what I expected rather than the "lights on are
(potentially) dangerous". I guess I expected you to take an 'active
action' towards your own safety rather than a passive one. **** it... I
    know what I mean.

In my case I generally ride with the BMW lights on, but only 'cos I
commute on it and generally never switch the lights off; when I do I
suddenly find myself riding in the dark... with no lights.

With the Kawasaki I *sometimes* have the lights on. Fairly random
really. I guess it depends on whether I hit them accidentally under the
    handlebar muffs.
