evening. He and a mate got a lift down from where he lives (Melton
Mowbray), handed over a fistful of cash and buggered off on the outfit.
They should be nearly home by now...

Well, I took him out for a quick spin round the block, then let him do the
same with me in the chair giving policy. He seemed to cope pretty well.

OTOH the phone rang about five minutes after they set off, and I thought...

Thornbury, just north of Bristol. They set off just after 7:00PM. I'd
warned them that it would take them 4 or 5 hours to get home. I reckon
they've decided that the Fosse would be too slow, and chosen to hit the
M5/M6 and rant the tits off it all the way home. So, 100Km/h cruise and the
petrol vanishing rapidly - which they were also warned about...

More likely they were trying to get to Melton Mowbray without having to
turn right.

I've got the hang of that; its above 50 mph it all goes horribly wrong.

 

Obviously you shouldn't be taking it over 50, except on the straight bits.
