    Hi,

I have recently moved to Tasmania and I am currently in the process of
'desperately' trying to get my bike over the Tasman. I am very hesitant to
travel on the Spirit of Tasmania again so soon as I suffer from sea sickness
and the cost of freight is a little high! (approx $220.). I am willing to
pay or help perhaps in accommodation in return, that could be discussed with
the person later, obviously as stated money is limited, though I now live in
a lovely area of Tasmania for riding.

I have organised my brother to ride it to Melbourne this weekend (he is
attending a wedding there), he will arrive the early hours of Saturday
morning 15 November 2003. I have sought the assistance of :

    Shaun Lennard
    Event Director
    Yamaha Australian Motorcycle Week
    Tasmania, 14-24 November 2003
    GPO Box 1580
    Hobart Tas 7001
    Ph 03 6228 2400
    Fax 03 6228 0855
    www.motorcycleweek.com.au

... he is (has been for last week or so) trying to see if someone coming
over for the Motorcycle Week can bring my bike over with them on the Spirit
of Tasmania. Todate there has not been much success, have you any
suggestions or other avenues I can pursue.

    My bike is a:

    BMW R1200C Classic
    2000 model
    ZOE61 (rego)

I can be at Devonport to pick it up from the person/s when it is off the
boat. What can I say ...HELP!!!

Sorry to 'dump' this on you so soon/yet so late!

    Regards Zoe

OK.. I'll take it to New Zealand for her.
Not prepared to pay $220 to get her bike freighted... so not _THAT_ desperate.

If she paid my airfare to Melbourne I'd do it, but what's the Tasman got to
do with it? She wants to bring it via New Zealand?

I can't work out why $220 is a lot of money to bring a bike to Tasmania?

Damn. You've been reading my mind again, Nev. Better stop it before I get
    to the weird stuff.

The regulated fee for after hours accident towing in Victoria is $226... and
that's just to put the vehicle on the back of a truck. They charged over $750
last year to tow my bike from Reefton to Heidelberg... that was more than the
ambulance charged to take me from the Reefton pub to the hospital in Ringwood.

'cos it's $38 if it's accompanied. So, they're looking for someone
who's pillioning around tassie on the tas ride but would be happy
to ride it up the ramp and back down the ramp. Presumably.

If it's still there mid-December I'll do it for a case of
taswegia's finest. Email me, stranger ...

  10. I just paid $530 to get a car shipped from Clifton Springs around the bottom
of Port Phillip Bay up to the Blue Mountains. $220 to ship the bike
Melbourne to Tassie is nothing really.

  11. The email came through my club, I just passed the request on. I know it's
highly unlikely, but she probably doesn't even know aus.moto exists. If you
are willing to help, send her an email.

Yeah, I know you had to get rid of the motor and but the TH400 behind the
    V8.

    sickness

So do I, when I went to Tassie I bought some Quells from the chemist. Worked
brilliantly. Didn't even get sick after getting pissed on the boat...
