Going to Coldbrr for the MSCC Meeting

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by James Mayfield, Mar 23, 2006.

  1. Off on Saturday evening for Canberra for the Motorcycle Safety
    Consultative Committee Meeting.

Going to have a little bit of free time while I'm there.

Is there any good riding around Canberra that can be done in a 2 hour
round trip, without needing too much in the way of navigation? (I have a
Canberra street directory, but would prefer not to have to use it.)

You can take in a couple of porno shops and scope out the fireworks in that
    time, yes.

The Cotter loop sounds ideal. Head west on Cotter Rd (off Adelaide Ave), right intu
Uriarra Rd, left at the river crossing, left at the big dam (don't go to Tumut!),
around the twisties, right at Cotter Rd, over the new bridge, follow the road to
Tharwa, back to Drakeford Drive, the Tuggeranong Parkway, and the city. The best
    two-hour ride in the region!

  4. And if that isn't enough for you, take a side trip up the Corin Dam road
off the road between Cotter and Tharwa (it's well signposted): twisties
(some reverse camber), bumps, leaf litter, occasional water trickles
across the road, mad sports cyclists in groups and, if you do it at the
right time of day, plenty of glare at the wrong moment. The road is
closed a fee kays after the bobsled facility, but it's still long enough
    for fun.

Mate there really isnt that much around here in canberra, if you want
some fun fast riding head out towards the cotter past coppins crossing
near belco, but bar that the city is littered with fixed speed cams and
not much else. but hey if anyone else knows of anything inside canberra
im all up for hearing it cuz i live here and still dont know!

    good luck

There are 8 fixed speed cameras in the whole city, three of them are
within a three blocks of each other.
Well, there's Black Mountain, Mt Ainslie and Lady Game Drive, but with
just on 100km of twisties between the Coppins Crossing turnoff from
William Hovell Drive and the southern tip of the tarmac in the Namadgi,
why go out of your way to ride that?

We can tell where you're from! That'd be Lady Denman Drive, around the western side
    of the lake.
