I guess you are looking for American rates, however as a comparison
    from the UK::

Local city (Milton Keynes) approx $85 per hour plus VAT (tax) @ 17.5%
Parents town 100 miles North of here $70 per hour plus VAT (tax) @
    17.5%

Full service for Triumph Daytona is quoted at $800.

I try to do as much work as I can without thehelp of the local shop.

    New Zealand:
$NZ45/hr ($US28) for small private workshops to $NZ60 ($US38) for
    dealers.
Don't know how anyone can afford to ride a bike in the UK, or even
    the US...

It costs a LOT of money in overhead to run a shop.
These numbers are not at all out of line if you're trying to
make a small profit on your work.
    Had a TV fixed lately?
    Or a car?
Or work done on your house?
Don't get me started on the Dentist!!! I might get mad enough
    to spit teeth...and I can't aford it.

That's why we do everything ourselves...no matter how much it costs
us in emergency room visits ;-)
