I remember when I turned 30, remarking to a mate that "I never thought I'd
get this old this quick". I never actually believed I'd ever be 50...

Don't worry, son, you won't feel a thing.

A bit of an anticlimax as I recall. I'm looking forward to collecting
me bus pass these days, only another 7 and a half years to go and I can
become a total drain on the state.

It might be that to a degree but I think really there's an optimum ages
to be and while you're waiting for that age to come time seems to pass
slowly and when it's gone it seems to go faster because you're not
looking forward to the finish line. The first is like being stuck in a
double maths lesson on a sunny day, it goes on for ever. The second is
being on Countdown on something and trying to figure out the conundrum
    as the counter spins.

As to the first I remember literally counting the minutes in lessons to
the next time I could get together with she who would be wife #1 - wrote
a poem about it in creative writing class last year.

As to the second, you might just get a second wind - hoping for my third
    at the mo'.

    Slider says...
Oh no, they have fun alright, and lots of it. It's the general feeling I
get that they are almost a bit too sensible sometimes.
I was a teenage parent too, I'm 44, my eldest is now 25.
There's not that much of a generation gap difference between me and all
the kids. We all pretty much like the same music, clothes, and have the
same outloook on life, but they just seem...mature in comparison.
    Relative to what?

Looks like I've got this one to look forward to, although sometimes I feel
like I've grown up too much myself...
    Yourself, of course!

When I say "I'm getting old", my daughter
says "You are not getting old. You ARE old".

Age is only a matter of opinion.
