GO Westy its raining in Silverstone Westy is 3rd fastest in warm-up . After
his last SS performance I don't think he needs rain anymore tho .

  2. Westy is going like a cut cat, why does this guy not have a factory
    ride?

Only read the text report online but sounds like a helluva ride - from
16th to half a lap ahead of the field in the wet. Why doesn't he have
a ride ? Because seats follow the money as much as the talent. You've
about 4 times as much chance of getting a factory seat if you're
spanish or italian. Aussies will always struggle to get a ride as they
don't bring money to the table - they have to show they're better on
poorer machinery to even get a look in.

Even still, if the talent scouts(1) aren't seriously looking at that
result and questioning whether they should be picking him up you'd
have to wonder whether they really want to win.

    (1) I doubt there is actually such a thing, take it as a metaphor

Oh come on... West doesn't have a ride, and won't get one, because he
does far more harm than good to any team & sponsors by shooting his
    mouth off.

His PR value is in deep negative territory.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with that. It takes a lot of shutting up to
stop being a loud-mouth. Blaming the bike, the mechanics, the manufacturer,
the sponsor, the media, the track, or even the sunshine, out loud, is not
the way to get a factory ride.

And when you compare him with Stoner, it's easy to see the right way to
    do things.

I'm impressed that Stoner _never_ says "I" - every success he has, it's
always "we". To the point where you start to wonder if English is his
    native tongue ;-)

Another Gobert ? Awesome talent but not worth the risk ?

I must admit I haven't noticed the behaviour you're talking about
though. The only time I can recall him mouthing off was when the
machine blew up on him when he was up the pointy end (3rd or
something) - about 2 years ago.

I've read some stuff on him and saw a profile of him on TV. They descibed
him as a prima donna who never makes a mistake. It's the tyres, you know,
the one the sponsors make. The mechanics, apparently he abuses the mechanics
quite loudly when he, oops sorry, the bike fails to win. The set-up, when he
falls, ooops sorry, when the bike falls down. Losing the plot and kicking
the bike with xxx million people watching, you know, what the sponsor pays
for, didn't help at all. The TV thing I saw said something like, it's going
to take a couple of years of very good behaviour to make up for all that.
Meantime, he gets more frustrated, etc, etc. I can't see him getting a
factory ride any time soon. No number of MotoGP wins would help the
manufacturer when he kicks the bike in anger with all those potential
    ex-customers watching.

And even when he won on Sunday - he didn't thank anyone, NO ONE!
It's a real pity, he's obviously a really talented rider but a PR
nightmare. He needs to do a term at the Kurru Kurri finishing school!

Sounds like he needs a manager. Someone to teach him how to behave
and get him focused on the skills that don't involve going round in
    circles.

I think he needs more than that. I was approached by a young lady, dressed
for attention, on behalf of West at the last GP, or the one before. She, and
several other ardent West fans, were trying to raise money to get him a
'real factory bike', as he is not being treated fairly by the factories, and
if he could only get a proper factory bike, he'd show 'em all how good he
    really was.

I didn't buy any raffle tickets but I thought, that's going about it
completely the wrong way. It appears from his Sunday podium performance,
according to DELETE, he hasn't learned much since then.
