  1. Well, fine, but why would there be two-stroke oil in the petrol tank?

Because any self-respecting (2T) MX-er will have cans of pre-mix
kicking around the garage at a guess.

  3. Yes. And what makes you think he'll pour it into the tank of a bloody
    ZX9R? Even MX-ers aren't quite that dim.

It's just that of all the possible explanations offered, this one is the
unlikeliest. Not saying it's impossible - just rather improbable.

He may not have thought it'd be a problem, & neither do I, although I'd
think twice if it was Castrol R. Unwanted pre-mix has been donated to
plenty of my 4T bikes & cars over the years.
Agree 100% - there's no way it'd make it run that lean unless he
    seriously screwed up the ratio.

  5. Indeed.

Does anyone still use the stuff, and if so, why?

(Apart from the smell, of course, which is as good a reason as any)

I've smelt it coming out the back of a few scooters - bugger knows why
though. Probably coz their old dad used to use it in his Beamish Suzuki
in the 70s so it must be good. Putoline or Silkolene is the oil of
    choice for serious smokers though.
It does smell fantastic doesn't it. If only someone would bring out a
Castrol R air freshener. Actually I think I'll send an email to the
    makers of KY Jelly...

I use it in 2 strokes coz it's a better oil in lots of ways than
synthetics. There are draw backs though, like cold weather and gum and
varnish. I've mostly used it in model engines, but many of the same
ideas will hold true in full sized engines.

    Really? What ways?

    (Other than the smell, obviously)

Apparently, there are some great developments going on in spark less
petrol engines and diesels now. I'm sure it'll get into bikes some time.

  10. I've also discovered that petrol only trickles out of the petrol tap. When
you open the petrol cap it gushes out. So that would be all the wax polich
    blocking the vent then :(

From my experience of strokers, none whatsoever. Plenty of disadvantages
though, not least of which is the price.

    How does that work, then?

  15. You have a seperate combustion chamber with an oil lamp burning in it.
At the correct moment, a rotary valve in the head opens and the flame
ignites the mixture. You adjust the time by advancing the opening time
(and duration) of the roatry valve by adjusting the the bowden cable
operating it, or by filing bits off the wooden eccentric cam.

Doesn't Castrol TTS smell rather similar to Castrol R?

That's clearly bollocks. The oil lamp would set fire to the eccentric
    cam.

Unless Muck knows something we don't?

    <thinks>

Lignum Vitae still burns, doesn't it?
