Gloves

  1. Noted, thanks. Snowmobiles are popular with me as well :) but I had
never bothered to inspect how the bar heaters were installed. I was
always simply grateful, with ambient temperatures as low as -30C, that
    they worked!

Muffs and Oxford HotGrips (adjustable) with the lightest-weight summer
gloves have worked well here every day. Toasty warm, and you can feel
    what you're doing. ;)

I thought my bike sounded like a bag of spanners being rattled when I
last rode it without earplugs, then remembered I was on the Honda and
it's always sounded like it's on the verge of blowing up.

To do a BikeSafe day? With hilarious consequences, presumably.

So far so good. It's the 130bhp Highline model, there stuffing them full of
every thing now as they are due to be phased out shortly. Very good for my
    commute, very comfortable and economical.
It's cleaned up luvverly, and a very presentable young chap has bought it
who's a bit of an enthusiast for Golfs. Also, his parents are selling a
Clio which I am interested in buying for James, so could be good news all
    round.

I very much doubt we'll get 130bhp engined ones. I've heard that some of
the lower range models are being almost as well kitted out as the
standard Highlines at no extra cost, which is handy as far as tax is
concerned. We'll have to wait and see what we actually get.

I'm not all that bothered, as long as it has a reasonable spec and a
large sized boot. I'm sick of having stuff floating about on the back
    seat all the time.

The Bering Indy2 gloves I've got are excellent - kept my fingers dry and
warm whilst being violently vibrated to Frankfurt:

[1] I've not used this firm and I paid £50 for mine so it's
    just for illustrative purposes.

Perhaps it was the vibrations that kept them warm.

Ta. Bought some HG "Thunder" gloves, similar price.

The Highline model is only slightly more expensive than the SE, so pretty
good value. Mine's a March 04 model, I also looked at a Sept 03 SE model,
    which was the same price.
The boot is pretty bloody huge, my Golf used to have loads of crap floating
around in it, I used to have the seats folded down most of the time.

If you get the choice, VW are still doing the Bora with the 150bhp diesel
engine, that's got a huge boot too.

Ours will be new ones, whatever we get.
I've seen the boot on the Passat, compared to the Golf it is cavernous.
We won't get a choice, we'll get what we're given. I don't mind that so
much because the company seem to be quite sensible about things like our
tax liability, which is one of the reasons we have these Golfs now. I do
know we'll be getting larger cars though, because the Golfs have proven
to be too small to carry the samples we need on a daily basis.
