Global Warming ??

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by George W Frost, Oct 30, 2010.

  1. With all the hoo-haa from the world Governments about Global Warming and
save the planet and all other bullshit they have been spruiking, the rain
which is pissing down in bucketloads today throws all their arguments out
    the window.
The weather bureau has predicted a months rain in the one day.
Not exactly what I would call global warming

Hence why the goal posts are moving to climate change as justification
for extending the lies and continuing to generate the $

Of course, and as we all know, one day of rain after 11 years of
drought is proof of an argument, not a statistical anomaly. Climate
    skeptics rool, dood.

  7. What's rain got to do with global warming? The effect is not called
    global drying.

Note the term "tropical rain forest".

See that word in the middle there?

A warming of the planet should result in more rainfall anyway, overall
that is. In Perth we have had about 60% of our average rainfall this
year and I had to get a jacket out this morning to put over my flannel
shirt. It was near 3ºC this morning.

  9. There will be daily, weekly, monthly and annual variation. That is
    weather. This is climate:

  10. You can read whatever books you like Gerry or you can look it up on
wikipedia as much as you like
I go by what happens day to day and the effects happen day to day
I know that the effects of global warming is climate change and maybe my
interpretation of the title may be way off your standards
what I was saying , is that the Governments are spruiking about global
warming OR climate change, as if it is such a disastrous event and only they
can cure it by whichever means they can connive.
But, the weather is the weather whichever way you look at it and no-one on
    this earth can change it
AND, don't go calling me "Dearest George",
people will start wondering about your intentions toward me, including me.

The weather is the weather whichever way you look at it and yes no 'one'
    person can change it.

However mankind as a species, over an extended period of time, now has
the numbers and energy useage to inadvertently influence weather
patterns over an extended period of time.

The real question is not if the effect is real or not, that's trivial.

It's how large the effect is and if said effect is large enough to
influence weather patterns enough to make a difference to various forms
of life on this planet (not just humans) and further more if that effect
is self dampening or not in nature.

There is gathering evidence that it is not (which might become a problem
    at some point).

    I'm not sure it's a problem yet however. [1][2][3]

[1] No this doesn't make me a climate change sceptic, as I said the
    effects are real.
[2] The effects may not be large enough to warrant various actions being
    proposed.
[3] Even if those effects are large enough to cause problems there isn't
yet evidence that various proposed greenhouse reductions would have the
desired effects. There are probably better ways to reduce greenhouse
emissions than those currently proposed. I'd rather see brown coal
phased out and nuclear power phased in that solar panels on houses for
    example.

  19. Yeah, but global warming induces climate change. Weather will still be
weather as that is a localised effect.

Your comment about rain is irrelevant to climate change. Some areas
will end up wetter, some drier. In general, southern Australia will
    logically end up wetter.

(taking as given your trolling but commenting anyway)

Our buses are all either Euro 5, Euro 4 or Euro 3 and run ultra low
sulphur diesel, that makes them cleaner than most of the Australian car
fleet (Australia has one of the oldest average ages for cars in the 1st
    world).

Secondly each bus trip replaces multiple car trip, reduces the amount of
car use and hence reduces total greenhouse gas emmissions.

    (but keep trolling George :)
