Is a bastard of a job, especially if you use a Morgan Carbtune II to
    do it.

Cos they don't work. The steel rods slam straight up to the top of the
    tubes, and stay there.

Assuming I was doing something wrong (as you do) I went to the
    internet to find out what.

"Goldwing 6 cylinder - Sorry, it won't work on the 6 cylinder model.
They have two carbs and give very high readings."

Well, that's helpful - especially as the adjustment screw[1] has been
fiddled with, in an attempt to get the rods to move.

At least I've managed to get a nice steady idle now - also helped by
setting it at 800rpm, not ~ 650 as it used to be.

Any recommendations for a pair of dial type gauges?

All six plugs changed, though - much easier with a snug-fitting
    socket, isn't it?

Only the oil, oil filter and clutch back plate to go.

    [1] Honda's earliest attempt at "mass-centralisation" I reckon. It's
*just* reachable with a 12" screwdriver, through a 1cm sq hole, behind
the rhs radiator fan housing. I knew that mini-maglite would come in
    handy.

  2. I've got a set of four ordinary gauges, but you can "reduce" the
readings on them by tightenng little crimping screws on the rubber pipes
to restrict the, er, the flow of the vacuum. As it were. Very handy
    feature, anyway

    You're welcome to borrow them.

The gauges by Davida are very good IME. I have a pair from my Guzzi-owning
days, when they got plenty of use :) They came with little brass adapters
for the carb intakes - very nicely made.

I might be wrong, but doesn't that just dampen the movement, rather than
actually reducing the reading? The Carbtunes can be fitted with a piece
of narrow bore tubing to acheive the same effect.

Did mine with a set of 4 gauges using 2 of them and it was fine
Still got the gauges, probably the same as Togs

    You could be right, actually.

  7. You have to cut the tubes and insert the tubes with the very small
    holes. They then work.

Swap you a loan of them for a freshly laundered Kent Wings sweatshirt?

You misunderstand, Mr TOG. The aforementioned garment belongs to Mr R.
Obbo, and as I'm supposed to be delivering it to him, I sensed an
opportunity to kill two birds with one stone, as it were.

This in no way is an attempt to pooh-pooh your own offer, which I was
in the middle of replying to when you responded to my reply to Robbo.

Should the Kentish Klown be unavailable, I would be delighted to
borrow your gauges, especially having seen the price of a new set.

Especially if I consider I might need a six-set for the CBX.

ObCBX - set of engine bars just gone on Ebay - £335! Glad the seller
threw a freshly chromed set in when I bought mine.

  12. Ah. Don't think Robbo lives anywhere near The Chateau, actually. Does
    he?

As for the rest, gauges aren't too pricey. £50 for a four-set, and about
£30 for a two-set, which should do you.

  14. How about using Y- or T-shaped connectors to split the pipe coming from
each carburettor into two, and then wiring up all four pipes to the
gauge. Would this effectively half the vacuum being registered by each
column and thus making it register lower on the scale? Ideally each pair
of columns plumbed into the same carburettor would have exactly the same
reading. Note: my knowledge of physics goes no further than GCSE, and
    I'm just guessing.

It sounds like a damned fine idea, to me. Ta.

Now, where to get the T pieces?

Yours do, because each carb isn't filling 750cc every other
    revolution.
