Gixer now in the garage for a while.....

Not posted for a while as I've been reading through google (not as user
friendly), so I guess it's time to admit I've had to put the gixer in
the garage for a few months <sob>. I can't fit onto it at the moment
as I am now 5 months pregnant with twin boys! Over the moon and still
reeling from the surprise of it - 7 years of docs saying very very
unlikely! But I have been relegated to the KTM recently, although I
think in all honesty some of the roads here suit it far better <vbg>

So the question is, best idea to stick in on the Optimate long term?
Or just wait until closer to when I can ride it again next year?

Depends. Does it have an alarm? If so then use an Optimate or similar full
time. If it does not have an alarm then just hook up the Optimate a few
days before you plan to ride it again.

  3. I'd disconnect the battery and connect the optimate once a month or so.

Yup, I find that leaving an Optimate on long term requires occasional
checking of the fluid levels in the battery, so easier just to remove it
    from the bike.

Well first off, conga-rats on the sprogification and second off, shove the
Optimate on now and forget about it.

    Congratulations on your pregnancy.

As far as the battery is concerned, disconnect it, and Optimate it for
    24 hours once a month.

As far as anything else is concerned, the state of the battery - and
of the motorcycle it fits - will fade rapidly into the background. An
overwhelming desire for sleep, combined with a shed-load of feeding,
bathing, nappy-changing, and very little social life, will take over
    completely.

And they will *never* be off your hands. No matter how old they are.

It's called 'parenthood', and very few are ever prepared for its
    demands. Enjoy!

A couple of years ago, a pal of mine (actually, his wife) got pregnant and I
said to him "Well that's the end of your biking, RC flying and guitar
playing", to which he replied "Having a baby isn't going to really have much
of an effect on us". Obviously it was their first.

He came round to our place last weekend with the (now) toddler in his 4
seater Beemer with rear facing baby chair installed . He used to drive 2
seater convertibles (Pork Boxster last time I saw him) but not anymore and
asked if I wanted to buy his guitar (Martin D-28) as it's sat doing nothing
for over a year. He flogged his bike at the start of the biking season and
his RC helicopters are gathering dust in the loft.

At least I get the chance to buy a sponditious guitar for a grand as opposed
    to almost 3 grand:)

It's the first time I've seen him round here for 18 months. The only other
time I've seen him was at his place when I went round there to see the
    newborn.

To paraphrase his comments...."I never expected that" :)

Trade it in for a Harley. They're designed for riders with a lot out
    front:

Make sure your contract doesn't entitle the nanny to maternity leave....

    @news.zen.co.uk:

Can you get away with that in France? I suppose you would know...

Good lord don't employ anyone "in France". Clearly they will be some 3rd
worlder and you hide the passport.
