Givi top boxes

Well, looks like I may as well keep the Triple. I've got used to the
commute, and I still like the bike *loads*. So apart from the headlamp
mod I have one other thing to do: Top box [1]

Looking at the Givi site, they only apparent difference between the
Monolock and Monokey systems are the 'weight'. So questions for anyone
    that has sued them
    1) Is Monokey preferable to Monolock for any other reason?
    2) Are these things waterproof?

Are there any other brands I should consider?

    TIA

[1] Yes, I know it will hardly help the aesthetics, but at least I can
swap the pillion seat for the hump when I'm not using the luggage.

Monokey is generally used for the full pannier / top-box sets. They use
    incompatible fixings.

However, I discovered that, if you have a Monolock top-box (as I do - a
Givi Simply), you can bolt the mounting plate for it to a Monokey system
'Wingrack' and can also change the lock on it so it matches that of the
    side cases.
My top box has never leaked, however, the panniers have. I reckon it's
more to do with the mounting position rather than the boxes being
    waterproof.
Kappa boxes are interchangeable with Givi boxes and frames and can be
    significantly cheaper.

I've got Givi E21 panniers and have been out on the bike in serious
absolutely-bucketing-down rain several times this year. Nothing got
    even remotely wet...

So cheaper is fine, they should be pretty waterproof, and Kappa is even
    cheaper

I think Kappa is made by Givi.

I have a Givi 'Simply' top-box and plate bolted to a Wingrack using
Kappa side cases. All-in cost was quite significant, but I saved a fair
bit by getting a s/h wingrack (had to buy a new mounting kit, though),
Monokey top-box and Kappa side cases.

    Likewise.

I've ridden in torrential rain with Givi luggage mounted as top box and,
many years ago on a VFR, E38 panniers. Never leaked.

I currently use an E48 Monokey as a topbox on a Monorack fixture.

I've no idea what the Monolock stuff is like.

My bit of advice (other than buy Givi, they do what you want them to) is
to ask who has what spare before you open your wallet. The last time I
delightedly mentioned that I'd got a Givi box from ebay, half a dozen
ukrmers popped up with a cheery "oh, you should have said..."

I have a Givi Monorack top-plate going spare, if I can find that Oirish
**** Petrolcan and nab it back, and if anyone else wants the ZZR1100D
mounting arms that it's attached to they're welcome to them.

Good point. TBH I'm looking at £40 for a brand new one from ebay, so
I'm not overly bothered. Topic changed just in case though :)

Probably a bit of a sod to fit on the Triple, and would make it rather
    wider, no?

    Otherwise I would.

any of the E** Monokey sidecases (aka panniers in English) can be used as a
    topbox with appropriate fixtures.

Postage from Arniestate might be a bit of a fucker, mind.
