Gilera SP50 carb

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by GarlicMonster, May 13, 2004.

  1. Hi

    Can anyone help me

My No1 son has put some old fuel [1] in his SP50 and now it won't start.

We've drained & refilled the tank & confirmed that it will start using
liberal doses of easy start into the air intake [2]. The fuel pumps running
ok, so all I can think of is a blocked jet. Problem is, I don't have a
manual and don't want to strip the carb down without one.

Anyone got any helpful advice ?
Can I get at the jets easily ?

[1] from an unsealed petrol can that has been in the garage for about 6
    months
[2] it starts and runs for about 30 seconds on the vapour then stops.

    Thanks in advance

Dunno the bike but all carbs are pretty much the same. If you can find a
map of a larger one you are half way there.

Before you even start buy a can of air from somewhere like Halfords of
an Office Supplies emporium. Great for cleaning jets it is.

Have a look and see if there is not a blocked in line filter (sometimes
a crude gauze thingy in the fuel tap) before you take the bike apart.

  4. - That sounds like a good plan
I took the fuel line off the carb connection and turned the motor over, fuel
came out ok, so I don't think there's a blockage between tank and carb.

Does anyone know if the gilera has an internal filter (seems unlikley,
    but.....)
