    Hi

I have done a couple of thousand miles on the bBackbird now and I am
starting to realise just how much power there is available from that
engine ! When I started monitoring my throttle movements I realise
that I only every use about half throttle and don't ever seem to need
to get the revs up about 5k! It's amazing now I'm getting used to it
and becoming more confident dare I say, I have begun to discover a
whole new bike. Keep the gears lower then you can explore the full
potential of the rev. range and scare you self silly or keep it below
6k and it's still as fast as you like ! Does anyone here have a clue
what I'm trying to say ;-)

Yes. You're trying to tell us that you are a big girl's blouse.
You should hit the rev limiter at least once on every journey.

<cough> Find yurself a noice quiet road loike, wang it open and *don't*
change gear until it hits the rev limiter. Watch where yer going moind yew.

I can recommend this as a way of clearing cobwebs.

  4. Roughly how long does this take, would you say? I'm thinking 0-AARGHH! in 3
    seconds max :)

Extra points for doing it in a tunnel.

About "eeek!" seconds. 'Pends on how commited you are, but around that.
'Bout 75-80ish before the need for speed requires 2nd gear >:)

If you want to really test your nerve you need to start in more
    appropriate gear, like say, third.

Absolutely. I hope I never get used to it.

I remember talking about this before, but can't remember the numbers.
Is this actually a taller gear than the gixxer, which I remember as
hitting the limiter slightly lower than that?

To the OP: you've been given sage, considered advice. The rev limiter
is there to tell you you're trying hard enough. Use it to change gear
without dipping the throttle - if you get as far as third like that
you'll have earned (at least my) respect. Fourth or more requires and
    you're starting to 'get it'.

Know the feeling - I'm on my third Blackbird. But Eiron has a point -
when you are more comfortable with the bike, there is nothing better
than (and I *really* like the french Peage for this...) caning it up
through the gears, then looking down to see at least 140 on the clock
(I generally don't have time to look down before then) then it onwards
    and upwards to 170 :)

And it does leave a big grin.

Lines weren't that bad, considering there was 2 way traffic.

Fucking slow though. Even my blue whale made better progress.

No, you are being a tad conservative. It may have low down torque, but
you might like to rev it out to ~ 8k in first [1] and second [2], and
occasionally redline it in 3rd when joining motorways.

    Worked for me.

I'll shall pop out forethwith to check it. In my defence, I was
thinking of other things rather than the speedo, like the impending
    junction for one.

I can sort of see the point, in that it might be of interest to
understand how it happened and how the spectators came to be involved.
Of course, it may simply be ghoulishness, as you say, but I'm not sure
    I'd condemn anyone for that.
