Getting old

  1. Apparently, if one's waist measures less than one's hips, one's ok.

    Sorted.

You carry on burning fat for up to 24 hours after you finish
exersising, so yes, you will still lose weight.

Your body is only capable of storing a finite amount of glycogen,
consequently, it burns as little of it as it can. Keep the work
rate low enough and your body will make as much use of it's fat
stores as it can, as well as some glycogen. Up the work rate above
the purely anerobic threshold and your body will begin to rely increasingly
    on glycogen.

If you want predominantly fat burn, you keep the execise aerobic and go for
much longer, which means a greater percentage of the enegy used will have
come from your fat stores. This also greatly improves your cardiovascular
endurance since it trains the body to continue to use fat at harder work
    rates.

The long and short of it is simple though:

Calories in < Calories out = less weight.

All the rest is just a balance depending upon what you are doing the
exercise for... weight loss, endurance sport, power sports etc or any
    combination thereof.

    Or summat like that.

Yes, that can happen in any form of training. You do some exercise
and then eat more than you need afterwards. Excess turns to fat.

No you won't. You'll get fitter though and turn muscle to fat.

I actually mis-wrote. I equated "weight" with "fat" earlier.

  10. Hmm, I'm about to be going through similar so I can get fit for the
MTB hol in Tibet in Sept. Gonna try to alternate between MTB and
single speed and cycle to work most days. Will need to get out onto
proper trails at the weekends too though, as I'm a big girl's blouse
    these days.

Well, I'm busy feeling sore and sorry for myself at the moment.
However, if I find any spare sympathy[1], I'll send it your way.

[1]Don't hold your breath, I'm hurting here.

  12. Hehe, bless.

It's always hard getting back into the swing of things. I've found
    that with running.

    You need an understanding masseuse!

I do apologise for not being specific enough. You burn fat 'at an
increased rate' for up to 24 hours etc etc.

The good news is that the higher screen seems to have stopped the
buffeting and cruising along at about 75mph is dead easy now. I didn't
buy the bike to batter along at 100+ (that's what the Kawasaki's for)
so I'm happy with it being ok at more sensible speeds.
