The gardening earlier took care of any pretensions to manicure.
The old ones are occasionally the best.

I nearly bought you a present today - a flower called Orange Pixie,
but it made me sneeze when I sniffed it. Striking resemblance.

No, we couldn't possibly have that. I notice that those criticising
haven't come back in response to LN. Except SteveH, and there is a
definite lack of reasoned argument there.

Given that out of all the people in this thread only LN and I were
present there certainly seems to be a lot of people who know what
    happened better than we do.

Actually, no it wasn't. It was a patronising comment, deliberately so in
    my opinion.
Indeed. Regardless of how the remark was intended, insult was taken. As
such the matter should have been dealt with properly.
Not only did she have to ask for an apology, none was forthcoming. The
'manager' did nothing to alleviate the situation, merely inflaming it.
    Quite so.

There are environments where that sort of comment would be acceptable.
In a customer facing role, the tone of interaction is set by the
customer. LN was acting in a professional fashion, not informal banter -
if I act in that fashion I expect it to be returned. In this instance I
don't doubt that it would have been. The attitude of the person in
question visibly changed when I moved over to where LN was. This is not
just about sexism, though. It's about basic human respect, dealing with
each other in a reasonable fashion. Being polite, civilised and
professional - none of these were evident from either of the two Post
    Office employees.

    A valid complaint then.

To the common man on the street Dixons is a trusted seller and
somewhere to go and buy AV equipment and white goods.

Were you happy to sell it to them in the first place?

See, if someone said that to me I'd be having words.

What's wrong with asking what they would like to do about it?

I could do the same thing in my line of work, selling expensive
products to the elderly and infirm:

    1) I know it's expensive, but you can't take the money with you.

    2) You're one of our most valued coffin dodgers.

    3) You silly old codger, put your hearing aid in.

    4) You might as well spend it now, you never know if you're going to
    be around next year.

Being the richest person in the graveyard won't win you anything.

....While they're all "light-hearted" they are very, very
inappropriate. Saying "Oh, you've been naughty and signed it in blue"
is an acceptable form of "Oh, you've been a naughty girl and signed it
in blue." They're the same thing, but one isn't acceptable.

  8. Do they? or perhaps they rightly expect that standards of service and
behaviour should be of the highest standard given how much stuff costs.
No we do not. We live in a society where the media create "crises",
"fury", "anger", "hate" and "outrage" about every sodding thing
imaginable. Too many people are unthinking and simply absorb the herd
mentality and expectations. Regrettably there is always some poor sod
on the receiving end of a reaction that is inappropriate and exaggerated
because the Sun or Daily Mail said they *had* be furious about this or
    that.
In this example the employee was wrong and the customer was right - end
of story. There is no need for a balancing act.
They should, however, be treated as if they are. After all they pay your
wages or are yours paid by some special government grant that exempts
from normal standards of retail management and customer service?

There is a knack to treating customers (or people) as if they are right
but then helping them to calm down and see the alternative viewpoint
where there is one to be seen. It's a skill that's needed in all sorts
of situations in life not just at the post office counter or checkout.

Oh just **** off you tiresome little twat.

The way you behaved directly before you came to be living in my house is
far in excess of anything LN has ever done. You are guilty of far worse
histrionics than anyone else on this group, under far less provocation.

The fact that the majority of the *thinking* posters in the thread seem
to agree with our assessment of the situation obviously means nothing to
    you.

She was treated in an unacceptable manner, you disagree, so fucking
what? That hardly makes it a storm in a teacup. You want storm in a
teacup, how about you threatening severe personal harm to a friend of
mine if a situation *you* brought about concluded in a manner you didn't
    like?

    blob, too.

No, you have missed what I was saying, and at the point you said it to
me, you claimed that you hadn't said anything to him. I was referring to
you needing to be there, not the manner of your leaving. I already know
    the details.

I have communicated with you via news and email because I have no desire
to see you or speak to you.

Don't feel any great need to stay until the end of the term given in my
    last email.
