  1. Great cast, Seth!
There's a hit! Be sure to set the hook and watch your drag. There you
go! Now reel him in and this fish is YOURS!

  7. Mind sharing the info on what you were wearing at that time?

And where it was? Date, too, of course.

+40°C is nothing. I've seen 48°C in Monument Valley and other places.
    With full riding gear.

I stand by my statement. You have no real-world experience in
lanesplititng. Therefore we know what your advice about that is worth.

At twenty below Zero I've been relatively comfortable in an insulated
snowmobile suit going 30 or so on a Ski-Doo. The next day it dropped five
degrees and it was too cold to sled at all.

    1977.
    Ft. Meade, MD.
Coldest winter on record, down to a - 60 F with wind chill factor.
I had abandoned my Datsun pickup in favor of a BSA 350 in a 221 frame.
Reverse pedals, ya know. A "scrambler." And I rode it through a gorgeous
summer and fall, and then through a horrible winter. One of the worst
winters ever in Maryland. And I say, "so what? You do what you gotta do.
    Beats walkin'!"

  13. I think the coldest motorcycle ride I ever took was a hundred-mile ride
at -10°F (-23°C), and it was bitter. Snowmobile suit (old one, not the
best insulation like modern ones), several layers under it, balaclava
under fullface helmet, two pairs of gloves inside snowmobile mittens,
and felt-lined Sorell mukluks. I've been out in colder weather on sleds
(coupla winter trips to Old Forge, NY), and it ain't pleasant!

    Are you SERIOUS?
Have you seen the width of those lanes there?
Expected? On that highway, it should be required! :)

  15. OK, but nobody needs practical knoweldge of an activity in order to have
    an opinion concerning it.
Spliting is not a zero risk activity so there is some danger associated
with doing it. The valid questions are whether it is dangerous enough to
be prohibited by law and, if not prohibited, whether individuals find its
benefits worth its risks. The State of California has not decided that
it is sufficiently dangerous to prohibit so individuals riding in California
are free to decide the risk/benefit tradeoff for themselves. DSKLKMERKN
has decided that the risks are not worth the benefits so, for him, it is
"dumb" but this does not make it so for everybody.

I wonder why so many have taken DSKLKMERKN's opinion so personally. He has
not, that I recall, said anybody is dumb for spliting but only that he finds
it dumb. Why does his personal balance of spliting's risks and benefits
    matter to anybody?

  16. Ok, but do you care about the can collector's opinion?

    Michael R. Kesti, Nov 11, 2007
  17. I think it is probably due the method of the *delivery* of his opinion.

Opinions are like asses: Only well-formed ones should be displayed in
    public.
Actually, they have. Every so often someone proposes to outlaw
lanesplitting, but the CHP keeps convincing the legislature not to.
Part of it has to do with how adamant he is in opposing something he
    knows next to nothing about.

Do I have to? Do I have to respect everyone's opinion about anything? Do
I have to, for instance, have to respect Jerry Falwell's opinion about
evolution? How about the Inquisition's opinion about the heliocentric
view of the universe‹do I have to respect that?
